Taking a chance on something I knew little about, I decided that my 6mmBR was in need of a new stock. I had Rob MacLennan make me a 26 inch heavy barrel with a 1:13 twist. My intention for this rifle was to shoot 65-75 grain bullets from 100 to 300 yards. I knew little about the 6mmBR other than it was almost as accurate as a 6PPC but capable of shooting a bit flatter. Having bore witness to a 30BR dominating the Listowel Sniper match for 5 consecutive matches, I did some resaearch and decided to build this.

As crude as it was, this stock is the perverbial love it or hate it. I personally don't care much for it. The grip is just a bit too big for my hands. And .....well.....look at it. Its flat out ugly. Functional and heavy, but ugly.(above photo)

So since I'm richer in love than money, I took a chance on a Bell and Carleson, since I couldn't afford a McMillan or the HS, so voilla....

The Palm swell is not as pronounced as the Remington P stocks. I talked with Aftermarket Innovations and had the stock fitted with their S.M.A.R.T. (Stock Mounted Adjustable Rifle Tuner) System.

This is an adjustable pressure pad that adjusts up or down the length of the barrel tuning harmonics. There is an access hole located on the front of the stock.

I don't know how it works yet but I will definately post my results. The bottom side of the stock has two ajustable allen bolts, one ahead and one behind the swivel stud, that provide the upwards pressure. My barrel is larger than the standard varmint contour of the factory remington 700. So I had to hog it out quite a bit. So much in fact, that I was bordering cutting right through the adjuster hole for the SMART system. The stock overall fits great. Its only 2.5 pounds compared to the beefy 6 pound USS stock it formerly sat in. I have to admit though, if I hadn't hogged out the barrel channel, I wouldn't have notice this...

Yeah...look at those air pockets. So hopefully this doesn't lead to any problems, however my faith in quality control is suspect at this point. I remember hearing about a few bad batches of HS stocks one time that contained a bunch of bubbles in them. So the final project looks like this

Hopefully just bolted in and torqued down it shoots as well as it did in the former stock. I will likely bed the recoil lug area and give it a skim bedding with epoxy. One last photo of it beside my Long Range .308 700VS with Falcon Merlin 10x42. Thanks CyberK

Actually I don't mind the B&C stocks appearance. No disrespect to Canada, but a few of the Canadian made stocks are butt ugly...but very functional and sought after by competitive shooters.... which reminds me of a plywood wonder......it works too....who knew...

Let us know how it shoots. Personally, I would like to have seen the heavy deep forend extend into the mag area to help stiffen it up more, but perhaps it isn't necessary. I don't think it would add any more positive looks though...

A shipment will arrive in the near future and we will be able to see these stocks first hand....

I made my order with the aforementioned Aftermarket Innovations, who in turn order direct from Bell and Carleson, who in turn ship it back to them so they can inlet for the S.M.A.R.T. system. I'm sure if you don't want it inletted, they would just ship straight to you.

I just got 2 of them for my savages. They are very good value for the money. Joe I would say they are plenty stiff in the mag area. Now if I can find a good way to add some weight to the butt. I actually have one for sale in the Parts exchange. No need for it now that I sold my favorite rifle to my friend.

I have bought the exact same stock and SMART system for my savage...

I had it bedded, and I haven't actually tried to tune the barrel yet... my next project... The stock fits and works great... Although, I'm not sure I like the screw to adjust the tuner block....I see it being easily stripped... they should have used an allen key system or at least a phillips screw...
