Hey guys. My new boss and I got off on a good foot you might say, swapping gun collecting stories! He has a Smith and Wesson 44 6 shot that he explained was like a "break barrel" to load. The cylinder stays with the barrel. He was unsure of the year, but does have the serial. He wants to sell and would like a ball park from poor condition to excellent. I do have a serial number if that might help. I tried Google and it was not my friend lol. Please and thank you!

I'd bet it's a version of the Smith & Wesson Model 3. Without pics it's very difficult to tell.

The only way to get any info via the serial number is to request an authenticity letter from S&W's historian Roy Jinks. It'll cost you $50, but it's worth it to find out what the revolver is for sure. From there, you can ascertain current market value.

lol. He had mentioned he tried and didn`t really come up with anything. As for brown nosing....nah..I`m too old to do that.
