My New British L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle

Yeah, mine too. Has had more 12 (x) classifications than any other firearm I own, government just couldn't figure out where they wanted to pidgeon hole it. - dan
Well the FN variants could be 12.2, 12.3, 12.5, and depending how it's done, you could even find a non-restricted grail out there.

That is absolutely beautiful! I have always wanted to shoot a rifle using a SUIT. They are such interesting optics. I love the carry handle on these rifles as well.

Is the tritium light source still bright?

It's not too bad. The Tritium source has been replaced within the past 10 years for sure, as it is still visible in low ligh conditions.

Thats a nice addition, especially the SUIT.
I regret letting my ELCAN go..

I once saw a fellow shooting a commercial FNmade model. It had burled walnut furniture, and a beautiful highly polished bluing job on it. This was maybe 1980 or 81 I think. I remember Guncraft in Calgary sold them then for $2000.00 Canadian. A Swiss STG 58 was about $2400.00 new if I remember correctly.

When the Libs are turfed we need to get ALL of our guns going to the range.

Range? How about out to the field. There is no reason AR15's and handguns shouldn't be able to be shot out in the field.

Either we PAL holders are safe to own firearms or we are not. If we are safe, then all the other rules and limitations are stupid and pointless means to annoy law abiding gun owners for no good reason.

I had a TRW M14 back in the day. I used to take it to Service Rifle matches and shoot both Sniper and Service Rifle with it. I was the only person using the same rifle for both matches. ;)

The M14 was a decent target range rifle but it would have sucked to carry around and use in combat.

Those were the days...... When I shot DCRA in Chilliwack in the late '80's, I used my TRW M14 (second production lot) for Service Sniper matches and my Australian L1A1 for Service Rifle. But then Allan Rock had to screw with the laws where there was no problem! I personally had no problem humping the C1A1 over hill and dale at the time. but then I was in my early '30's.

Correct - available only to a small and ever-shrinking pool of potential owners. At least until such time as it is deactivated, at which point it will become available (albeit inert) for anyone to own at an approximate value of $1200 without the optic. Basically, it is worth twice what I paid for it dead, rather than live. The optic will be sold separately for $800-$1K give or take, most likely on Gunbroker to obtain a sale to a US FAL collector. Thankfully that will all occur after I am dead and gone, with the firearms dealt with by a knowledgable friend.

Prices were a bit higher when a certain foreign buyer bought FALs but he has been spending his money elsewhere for the last 9 months. Nice that you were able to get it for a good price :)

$175 for mine from Ontario Sporting, those were the days, don't ask what happened to mine.

LOL! Sorry to hear about the loss of all your fishing gear from the boat!

I started my military time with almost as big a mouth as I had for the rest of it, so they stuck me with the C-2 on our ruck marches. Good gig. Way in the arse end of the column. Pretty easy to see and react to the stuff the Staff threw at us! :)

While I was in Comox, the Last parade that was done with the FN's was a Battle of Britain parade. The Major that was the Parade Commander, had drank rather more than his fill the night before, called the Parade to "Present Arms", and then forgot all about them for the remainder of the Parade. 90 or so minutes later, they got the order to "Shoulder Arms". No drop-out, no other 'issues'.

Guys on the Parade got an extra day of leave beyond the one they would have had. Parade Commander featured fairly large, in Routine Orders, as he suddenly found himself with many 'other' duties!
