My new bullet seating die

got mine in the mail couple days ago .tried to get a 40SW unit as well which was back order. incremental adjustments takes to much time with dillon's dies, that is why i finally settled up on redding comp seaters...however, they aren't cheap .

I bought that 9mm Redding seating die off the EE a while ago. It is a dead length seating die and does not crimp. Great die.

I wish I could find a dealer that has the .45acp one in stock and for sale.

Thanks for posting Marty. Many of us, have walked that road and concluded like you did.

Redding Competition Seating Dies do cost extra bucks not everybody is willing to spend but they certainly make adjusting COAL length as easy as saying it. I use them for both handguns & rifles cartridges and I would not go back to wrench guesstimating my seating depth adjustments. The later works but it sometimes can take so long to dial the correct depth that I find it cuts into my beer drinking time.

There is nothing wrong with the coke bottle shape of 9mm ammo that has been handloaded.
I spent months trying to get rid of this then realized that it still goes bang every single time.

thump_rrr : yeah i have shot at least 10k of my reloaded 9mil, all had the coke bottle shape, and ALL did go bang, not one single time did it not go bang.

UR2X3M4ME : you have brought a very solid argument to the table, adjusting bullet seating die with a wrench cuts in the beer drinking time, i couldn't have said it better!

glenzo : yep you are right, i have always seated and crimped in 2 different stations anyways

grizzly guy : yes exactly, it'S in my plans to eventually get reloading 38 special. As they use same primers and powders as my 9, i'd just need an extra top toolhead and the bottom conversion.
Maybe VVN320 is not whats best for .38, but i would still try it for the sake of keeping stuff easy

sigtactical : they aren't cheap for sure, but once you start reloading progressive all the equipment is expensive anyways. Compared to buying factory loads, put this way it will pay off on it's own.

Thanks Rory, will try this evening, thing is that i set my dillon die as told in instructions, that'S why i was thinking it was die issue, and not die adjustment.
There is nothing wrong with your dies or settings, you are just sizing a little bit more than needed.
It certainly isn't hurting anything, and you could spend a lot of time fiddling around with adjustments, trying to fix something that isn't a problem. So long as they go bang, everything's good.

I use a bullet comparator( measures from the case head to the bullets ogive)to help me in my OAL setting.

Whats does this look like?
Right now i have a dillon case gauge to see if my ammo glides in good ( spot check ammo not all )
And i also use a canadian tire digital caliper. Seems enough precise to work with.
When using certain brass mfg the OAL is crazy consisten, with #### like blazer it's all over the place, so it's my practice ammo.

go to Sinclair or Hornady's website, both company sells these gauges,

The beauty of that seating micrometer is you can use it on your other seating dies, as long as they have the same thread pattern! I just bought one for my first wildcat, .270 Redding.

Those forester and redding micrometer dies are pretty much the only game in town for precision rifle. Handguns don't benefit from them in any meaningful way, but gawk, once you use one you don't want to go back to anything else.

As for OCD, to be a reloader is to have OCD, and to have OCD is to be a reloader. Long live the reloader!

I will keep this short, as i'm stuck doing paperwork this evening and almost done!

Tonight i have traded a few thousand 9 mil projectiles. My 147gr Zero FMJ went out, 147gr Zero JHP came in.
Adjusting OAL wasted ONE and only one bullet. To do testing i use only my best brass.

My seater was adjusted @ 1.150'' for FMJ. I tried a JHP on same setting, bullet came out @ 1.112''. Dialed it down 26 clicks and got a result of 1.138''. My objective was 1.138''.
Once again i'm in love with this product!
