Hey guys.....just got this handed down for my son. Grandpa's Cooey which he purchase in 1954. He as a kid sanded a pistol grip and made it very smooth and shinny. Any feedback.....I own a Ruger 10/22 Target stainless but this is a new toy.

Cooey vs. Ruger 10/22..... If your son is a good shot, that rifle might very well give your Ruger a run for it's money in the accuracy dept. Or more. :)

Thanks for sharing too, I like hearing stories about guns with a family history being passed-down like that. I'm not a nostalgic guy as a rule, but the exception might be where guns are concerned. I still shoot my grandfather's guns, and I'm over 40!

Over 50 here, and I wish my dad's Cooey was still around. Can't shoot my one of my grandfather's guns, it's .25 Steven's and very little ammo left. The other grandfather left a single German single shot. Haven't had it out in a long time either.

I'm the same, not really nostalgic, but guns handed down are a good thing. Hope the kids take interest in them and the sport.

I had to buy my own Cooey. And then I had to/chose to make up my own scope mount.

I'm hardly that good at the bench rest shooting skills but even so I managed to produce a 10 shot group at 50 yards with my Cooey that fit in the size of a looney. And that's with no consideration of the wind. It was light that day but there was still a reasonable amount of it. To say I'm impressed with how good a lowly Cooey can be would be a gross understatement.

The fact that this one comes with a lot of family history means you get to carry on a legacy with a rifle that can also deliver the goods. It simply does not come any better.

Thanks

I agree family hand downs are awesome because of the history and journey the gun has seen. My son is very happy about this new toy and I am sure he will be taking me on for bragging rights. Thanks guys.....:)
