My New Custom Rifle 700 Titanium

Hello Everyone

I wanted to show what I have been putting together the past year.
I mounted the scope yesterday, so I have not had the chance to shoot it yet.

-Started with a Remington 700 Alaskan Titanium

Build specs:
-Remington 700 Titanium Short Action with spiral fluted bolt and skeletonized bolt handle
-Trued action. Pretty square to begin with since these receivers are produced using different manufacturing processes.
-Benchmark Match Grade #3 contour, 1:10 Twist with 5R rifling. Blank cut to 24”
-Chambered for 300WSM
-Flutes cut into barrel after installation for perfect alignment
-PT&G aluminum bottom metal Standard BDL
-Bolt face refaced and Tikka T3 large sako style extractor installed properly
-Cerakoted bottom metal, barrel, bolt shroud and handle in Titanium Grey
-McMillan Remington Classic EDGE, Carbon Fiber Stock black w/ grey
-Timney 520 Calvin Elite Trigger 2.5lbs
-Talley Lightweight 30mm rings
-Nightforce NXS MOAR 2.5-10x42mm compact with ZeroStop and illuminated reticle

Very nice build! I'm hoping to get my hands on a 700 Ti action to do something similar. It's been slim pickings. Love your scope choice. I hunted with a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10X42 this year and I was very happy with it.
 
Very, Very nice setup! You will be happy with that Benchmark.
The only things different that I would have done is: Triggertech
trigger instead of a Timney, Timney will be OK though. :)
But I would never put a Sako extractor in a 700 bolt, since it compromises
the safety of the 700 action in the event of a case failure or a seriously blown primer..

Nice rifle and chambered in a versatile, do all cartridge. Did you do the work yourself? Guessing it's around 7 lb with scope?
 
Question about the Sako & mini M16 extractor. I have read that adding these types of extractors weaken the bolt. Why is Remington now installing a Badger Ordnance M16 extractor on their custom Sheep rifles if there is a possibility of it being a problem? This is where I actually got the idea for a aftermarket extractor.

The original extractor wasn’t the most positive extracting tool. Short mags in the 700 action have not always been the smoothest working. She throws the shells now without hitting the scope.

7lbs 1.4oz with scope and rings

Corlanes (Rocky Mountain Rifles) of British Columbia put it together with my supplied parts. Great to work with and prices are very reasonable. The quality of the work is great. I’m a picky SOB with very particular instructions. They did not disappoint.

I have an almost identical set up in 7mag. Without the fancy trigger, barrel, bottom metal. 7 lbs is a good finished weight. Should be a shooter!

What is it about the Trigger Tech you prefer over the Timney Eagleye ?

Don't think I'd do the extractor mod either. Other than that it's an excellent build IMO.

Great scope choice though! I have a NF-2.5-10x32 on my light weight 700 as well.

RMR has done two custom builds for me and a few re-barrel and stock projects. I've always been satisfied with finished product, glad you are also. Looking forward to a range report.

It's just the crispness of the TriggerTech units that impresses me. Also like the trigger
shoe shape itself better than Timney.
Not hammering the Timneys here, they are quite good for the most part. Eagleye.
 
I don't care how neat they look or how they may perform. An extractor either works or it doesn't , and the vast majority (many millions) of the original 700 extractors work fine, and if one fails it can be replaced. The is the same with the alteration (if one fails it can be replaced) ... but the extractor alteration completely negates the integrity and design of the 700 if you have a catastrophic case failure. It's a rare occasion but if it happens you will wish the system was unaltered.

The "3 rings of steel" were designed to not let much gas escape backwards as the case itself melted into the bolt face and sealed very well... now you have cut a big channel into that design and if the case fails the debris and projectiles will blow back freely concentrated on right down the side of the action.

If one is to alter the 700 extractor I think one might be better off if you did not recess the bolt nose into the barrel and drilled another hole in the action for gas to escape... and perhaps a larger bolt shroud to catch the crap... let the case head blow up completely rather than channel it at the Sako extractor.

The Timney 520 has a lot better shoe then the other Timney’s. The 510 is too wide and curved for my liking. This one is thinner and less curved.

The 510 THIN has a decent shape as it is much more narrow but still has a lot of curve.
