My New Gopher Gun

I am the proud papa of a new Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan, in .375 Ruger, of course. I topped it with a Leupold VXII 1-4x20. I will figure out how to get some pics up straight away. Can't wait to shoot it in about 30 minutes. Woo-Hoo, now those game animals will be really, really dead. Even more dead than the .30-06 I have can make them.

You must live up North where the gophers are smaller....that caliber is way under powered for the Southern Gophers..

I shot my new rifle today and it managed 1.5" groups @ 100 meters. My average velocity of the Hornady 270 grain ammo was 2718 fps from the 20" barrel. I am quite happy with the performance. Should give me 4400 ft/lbs energy at the muzzle and same energy @ 300 meters as my .30-06. Whoo-wee you sure know when you touch one off.

you know...the other day when I asked to look at a CZ 452 @ WSS, the other salesperson there grabbed some .375H&H and commented on how it should be my plinking rifle.

A .375 of any flavor makes a fine plinking rifle.

The rifle was $1080 and the scope was just under $400. The local gun shop in Kamloops is great to deal with. I could have saved $100 if I had bought from the 'big box' outlet here in town, but Mark and Don @ the 'little' shop are great to deal with, very knowledgeable, and if you have any issues, they work them out.
