The poor mans trg, I like it.
Howdy,
Just thought that I'd share my recently-assembled "Green" Precision Rifle, consisting of a Tikka 20" Barrelled Action in 6.5 Creedmoor, installed in a Kinetic Research Group (KRG) Whiskey 3 Folding Stock Chassis System. The rifle is topped with a Nightforce 7-35X 56mm Advanced Tactical Riflescope (ATACR) with a co-zeroed Burris Fastfire 3 Miniature Red Dot Sight (MRDS) for quicker target acquisition through the primary magnified optic. I will shoot the factory Barrel until it is done for practical accuracy purposes, then rebarrel with something nicer. Here is the current build list:
- Tikka Ultimate Precision Rifle Barrelled Action in 6.5 Creedmoor
- Kinetic Research Group (KRG) Whiskey 3 Folding Chassis System with Spigot, ARCA Rail, ARCA Barricade Stop, Night Vision Bridge (inbound)
- Nightforce 7-35x 56mm Advanced Tactical Riflescope (ATACR) in a Spuhr Picatinny Ideal Scope Mount System (ISMS) High Uni-Mount with co-zeroed Burris Fastfire 3 Miniature Red Dot Sight (MRDS) and Vortex Bubble Level with Tenebraex Scope Covers
- Timney 2-Stage Match 1-8 lb Trigger
- B+T Atlas Bipod (Claw Feet inbound)
- Leupold 20 MOA Picatinny Rail
- Lumley Arms Tactical Bolt Handle
- AtlasWorks aluminum Bolt Shroud
- Area 419 Muzzle Brake
- MDT 12-Round Magazine

Nice rig.
The KRG punches way above its weight, I put the enclosed hand guard on mine and I love it - it just feels / looks right.
I also chose a 7-35X ATACR and it's been excellent for me. I use the rifle for F Class and PRS (two very different disciplines with very different scope requirements) and the ATACR has been a great fit.
Cute rifle Mark. I was surprised by the shortness of that barrel when I saw it on Friday.
Thanks! I was actually hoping to find a Tikka CTR or UPR with the 24" Barrel, however all I could find slightly used was a 20" UPR to use as a donor rifle. Happily I was able to find a fellow CGNer looking for the UPR Stock, so I got away with a very slightly used Tikka Barreled Action in 6.5 CM at a cost to me of $1300 CAD. Compared to the 16" .308 rifles out there, the 20" Tikka Barrel looks looong! But of course, everything is relative!
We should have taken a picture of yours next to my behemoth.

^ I'd be interested how the CZ performed at the range. You mentioned a range trip?
I like it too! However not sure a "poor man" could afford to build it!....he may be one after tho!!

It was a very breezy and somewhat chilly day, with winds gusting from 30 to 50 kph according to my weather app. Initial rounds out of the rifle were 60gr PMC XTac which grouped 5 rounds into approx 2 MOA at 100m. When I switched to Hornady .223 53 gr VMax the groups immediately shrank to 5 rounds sub-MOA and 10 rounds into 1.25". I have yet to try 5 more brands of ammo, ncluding Federal 69 gr Gold Medal Match and Swiss GP90 5.56m, to see what the CZ 600 prefers for factory loads. So far however, I am pleased by what I saw and am encouraged by the potenitial demonstrated by that little carbine. It is a tack-driver with decent commercial loads!
The Tikka T2X/KRG Whiskey combinationi also did not disappoint, with S+B "Tactical" 6.5CM producing 1.25 MOA @ 100m and all "Match" factory ammo grouping sub-MOA with most groups approximately .75 MOA. i can't wait for a warm, calm Spring day to really wring out whatever accuracy the stock Tikka action and Barrel are capable of!
Here's the Tikka/KRG combo one more time in its final form with the Cadex Falcon Light Bipod added to the mix. Excellet Bipod! Awesome rifle!
Better than I would have expected. Looks cool the way you dressed it up. Definitely not your standard CZ 600 trail, price goes up there pretty fast.
The Tikka T3X/KRG Whiskey combination..... "Match" factory ammo grouping sub-MOA with most groups approximately .75 MOA.

Good to hear about the S&B for the money I have a bunch I haven't ran through my T3 yet. It sure loved the hornady 129gr SST's and 143gr ELD-X precision hunters though. Are those the polymer body MDT mags with the metal feed lips or is that a full polymer mag? I have my T3 in a KRG bravo and so far i've only ran metal MDT AICS pattern mags since KRG states you can't run magpuls in their chassis when you swap tikkas over into them.
Good eye! Those are indeed the steel-lipped Hybrid 10-rd mags from MDT. The steel extends down far enough that the mag is not too thick to insert into the Chassis.
