Finally, I have a rifle that I will feel very comfortable with entrusting my life to, while wandering in grizzly infested country. It is handy and very reliable, having stood the test of time for quite a few decades. The calibre has also stood the test of time for a great many years.

Oh, the calibre? It is the old faithful 22 Hornet!

The people at Barnes bullets used a Hornet in Africa to sucessfully take animals up to Zebra. I'd think a head shot with a Hornet would deter most bears.:D

I really don't want to mess with any angry animal, but if I had to, I'd much rather a zebra over a griz. I'd also like to have the time and wherewithall for a perfect head shot.;)

Interesting choice

22 Hornet? Wouldn't that just piss the grizz off?

Nope. The largest griz ever taken was shot between the eyes with a 22 Hornet.

And the largest muskox too.

And I remember the cape buffalo I shot in Uganda with my 22 Hornet. I was on a hyena shoot and this cape came charging at us. My trackers fled like the little cowards they were, so I waited until the buff was about 8ft and I shot him in the eye. Died at my feet.

And I took a elephant in Tanganyika in 1959 with that same 22 Hornet. I shot him at the base of his leg and I guess that nasty little bullet banged around inside until it found a soft path to the elephants heart. Died at my feet. Same thing with that Hippo I shot, but you guys have probably all heard that story before ...........

(I think H4831 was joking.).............;););)

Bruce; Looks like a BRNO ZKW 465? If so, I have it's twin, except mine is in 22 K-Hornet. Lovely little rifle that will stay inside 1 moa while fireforming Remington factory 22 Hornet ammo, and shoots about ½ moa with carefully assembled handlods using 'Lil' Gun. Regards, Eagleye.

Huntinstuff, you win the prize, a 40 ounce of Canadian Club, for being the first one to state that I was joking! However, rule 14:A3, states that you must pick up the prize in person at my house by 8:00 PM tonight. Gee, going off day light saving gives you an extra hour!

And Dave, you are exactly right in your observation of the rifle! Mine is a pretty old one, but in beautiful condition, so I think it will also shoot. I think it is the cutest rifle I ever had!
I notice Brno scope rings are about $90, plus, so do you know if any other rings fit it?
One of the older fellows from here goes to Saskatchewan every summer to shoot gophers. Maybe next year I will go with him.

Cheers, Bruce

Bruce; Isn't that the cutest, slickest "little" mauser type action you ever saw? Does yours have the set trigger or a single trigger? Mine is the single type. I have heard that some had excess headspace, but mine has never given any indication of a problem, although I admit to never checking it with a no-go guage. This one feeds from the magazine very well also. The Scope rings on mine came with it [The Rifle and rings were a gift from a lifelong friend in Salmon Arm] The rings are not BRNO, and have no marks on them except in four places they are stamped "Australia", so I don't know who would have manufactured them. Regards, Dave.

Ted, are Parker Hale rings of different width? I have Parker Hale rings on a BSA Majestic and they are about 1/8 inch to wide for the little Brno.
