My New Grizzly Defence Rifle

Finally, I have a rifle that I will feel very comfortable with entrusting my life to, while wandering in grizzly infested country. It is handy and very reliable, having stood the test of time for quite a few decades. The calibre has also stood the test of time for a great many years.

Oh, the calibre? It is the old faithful 22 Hornet!

Are you Timothy Treadwell's dad?? Remember , don't feed the bears.

The people at Barnes bullets used a Hornet in Africa to sucessfully take animals up to Zebra. I'd think a head shot with a Hornet would deter most bears.:D

I bow to Gatehouse's bear experience, but IMHO headshots on bears are not always reliable. I'm getting the feeling that this is an amusement thread, so I won't bother the trolls :D

You need the 16mm ring size. The Parker Hale and larger BRNO are 19mm. The .22 rifles are 11mm.
Warne also makes them for the BRNO 527 rifle (16mm)
Lynx as well, EAW and any number of Euro makers -- but really, for such a fine, fine rifle - I suggest the BRNO/CZ as a perfect compliment

You have a good point! That is what I will likely end up doing.

I will look forward to seeing you. Maybe you can combine your trip with the Biathon! You should have lots of running practice by then!!:D

huntinstuff and I are planning a grizzly bear hunt with our deadly 22 Hornets. We only want to go where there are big bears, maybe along the northern BC coast.
Some in that area can be fair sized. Me, I'd use my 219 Donaldson Wasp for a little extra punch. Better to be safe than sorry.;)

Nope. The largest griz ever taken was shot between the eyes with a 22 Hornet.

And the largest muskox too.

And I remember the cape buffalo I shot in Uganda with my 22 Hornet. I was on a hyena shoot and this cape came charging at us. My trackers fled like the little cowards they were, so I waited until the buff was about 8ft and I shot him in the eye. Died at my feet.

And I took a elephant in Tanganyika in 1959 with that same 22 Hornet. I shot him at the base of his leg and I guess that nasty little bullet banged around inside until it found a soft path to the elephants heart. Died at my feet. Same thing with that Hippo I shot, but you guys have probably all heard that story before ...........

(I think H4831 was joking.).............;););)

Lol. You should have written "Death in the Long Grass"
