I just got this nice 10 gauge Claborough double hammer at the sale at Shooters Choice. Including some pictures, the bores shine like mirrors. Only 2 7/8" chambers, but Winchester still makes blanks this size, so I am going to reload those for hunting. The barrels have a beautiful damascus pattern.

Nice,it should be fun. I use to shoot ducks with canuks #4 2 7/8 and loved it. I also cut down 3 1/2 & used them in a leaver I had. I still find canuks at gun shows for a reasonable (10-15$) price. It is a real thrill to hunt with black powder loads. Never a question on what the wind is doing :) AJ

Nice shotgun, Is it black powder or smokeless ? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

No dumb questions, just dumb answers (usually mine). Black powder proofs, so I going to load with black powder.

You see a lot of 12 gauge Clabroughs out there, you don't see many 10 gauge. Yours is in particularly good condition. I don't want to scare you, but most Clabroughs are a little loose (or alot). If yours isn't, it's probably because it was exceptionally well taken care of or seldom used. Either way, you want to avoid pressures any higher than it was intended for. So, it's a good thing you realise it's black powder only.

Nice score.

That is the best I have ever seen, seen a few over the years and most were loose.

Looks good enjoy.

better not use a simile for tight as i DO NOt want to get banned but she locks up very nicely i had a twelve gauge years ago and it was tight too< but it was also in excellent conition (sorry but my keyboard is on the way out)

dafydd, you might want to look close at that reloading information I sent you, including the word file on the different hulls. Small design differences of hulls, even from the same manufacturer, can make large differences in the pressures generated even with the same wad, shot, and powder charge. Something as small as whether the base wad is paper or plastic can change the pressures. Personally, I wouldn't use the Winchester blank hulls unless you have proven load data for them. It is easy to just cut down some 3 1/2" hulls. You might want to measure the chambers on your gun. Many British short 10s had 2 5/8" chambers.
