My New Hunting Dog

I just bought a PudelPointer for hunting birds and tracking.

My hunting partner has one truly an awesome dog!!

Cant wait 5 weeks to go

Here is whey they look like

anyone else have one?

Got mine back in May. We've only been out once on chukars with my
Brittany so far. She retrieved like a pro at 5months likes the water and is starting to get steady on point. Your pics look like Pineridge dogs. Is that where your new pup is coming from ?

Longwalker, that is the perfect example of a PP, versatile. Hunt anything, anywhere, anytime. I shot a jackrabbit a couple years ago at about 300 yards from the top of a high bank, while the jack was by the river. I took one look at my PP, pointed at the river and said fetch, and off he went. He hit scent about 100 yards from the jack, and worked his way in. When he found it, a couple tweets on the whistle and he brought that big jack (+- 10lbs) all the way to my feet.

Mine loves to chase cats, and he can bay like a hound - ear splitting when it happens, I would love to try running him on cougars but I worry about sending him off on his own after a big kitty. If I had 3 though, I would not hesitate.

I have been more then impressed with the PP as a breed. 100% hunting dog, no show / conformation breeders at all. Great dogs.

Funny I haven't heard of them before.
I've always used English Springer Spaniels but you DO have to make sure you buy from a breeder of hunting stock, not show dogs.

Retrieving 60lb. beavers IS a big job for any dog, mine will only tow them ashore but I'm not complaining! I've used "Bear" to hunt, point, track and retrieve snipe, huns, sharptail, ruffed grouse, pheasant, cranes, ducks, geese, showshoe hares, cottontail and jack rabbits, beaver, and a few other birds and critters. I predict that you're going to like your new dog AR15!

Not exactly. The GWP is the "non-german" version. The breed standard is slightly different and the job the dog is expected / required to perform is a little different as well. The Drahtaar and Kurzaar and Langhaar (?) are the German standard of the Wirehair, Shorthair and Longhair pointers, AFAIK.

Just kidding, nice looking pup. Did you get him from a hunting breeder? A friend of mine just had his put down, he was actually a fairly decent hunter. He was huge though, and had a great big nose on him.

LOL...point of order...this is a silver labrador which on dog forums can become a pretty touch subject LOL....He came from a Chocolate mother and a Silver father...

Same* dog, different rules. A GWP from a reputable breeder can be a fantastic dog. The rules that are in place for the Drahthaar are more of a guarantee. There are natural ability, hunt, and conformation tests to pass before a dog can admitted into the breeding program.
