My new K-31

It was the 16th left, bit it is walnut stocked. Someone said some time ago all they had left was beech. Interesting.

I would just go over it very thoroughly with Simple Green, and then use some Birchwood Casey stock wax on it. That gives the wood a nice lustrous shine, and brings out the grain too without doing any drastic refinishing.

Those dents and chips are proof of service. The Swiss are famous for sticking the rifle in the snow but end first and then freeing it with a hobnailed boot to the butt to get it out and then kick the snow off.
If you take the butt plate of there may well be a tag there with the last soldier to be issued the rifle Name, Regiment and town. It is an interesting bit of history.

I cant wait for mine to arrive, I'm on my third week of waiting now... The tag in the butt stock is like a bonus on a rifle that's already interesting and accurate.
