Hi,

Just picked this up... I think I have most marking figured out... but hoping for some input

It's a all matching QVE45 K43. The SN is stamped on the receiver, bolt, butt plate, and stock, and then EP'd onto the gas system, firing pin housing, locking lugs, trigger guard, mag, etc

WaA214 stamped on the receiver and bolt housing.

East German VoPo I think...

Two questions about the marks though...

1- what is the X mark on the receiver? Russian caputre mark or VoPo mark
2- Do you think that there is a VoPo sunburst on the action? Too hard to tell for sure
3- What do you think the DH and shield are on the underside of the barrel?

Can you help me out with the markings?

Here are some pics.

Thanks
EB

The DH and shield on the barrel are the barrel maker and lot markings. What's inside the shield? I'm not really that knowledgeable on the k43's but it looks like it could be a sunburst on the receiver.

There are others on here like CanadianAR that know way more about the k43's than I do. I'm sure someone will have the answers for you.

With the Sunburst and the X on the receiver, blued buttplate, electro-penciled numbers on the trigger guard, it is a VOPO (East German post war use).

On original GK/43 rifles - The SN was never put on the buttplate or trigger guard. Buttplate was always in the white.

Nice rifle!

Because the Kar-43 absolutely MUNCHES brass.

They were designed to work in ALL conditions, including 40 below on the Ostfront.

When the weather is halfway to decent, they use a LOT of gas and they operate 'WAY too fast and too hard. Same problem as with the AG-42B.

Excellent rifles with small possible flaws..... just like the Ross except that they have had better press.

Why is that?

Think of it like a damper or shock absorber. By reducing the gas flow with drilled holes in the set screws of the gas piston of various diameters, it slows down the action from wide open to fully closed. Slower is better for the brass and prevents cracks in the back of the receiver and various bolt assembly parts.

Exactly what the SVT-40 is all about with the adjustable gas system.

Nice find. I shot mine this weekend its a DUV44, pretty sure its not a VOPO. Will have to do a separate post. This one has the milled dust cover and I can see is quite a bit better finished than yours regarding the tool marks etc.

I did order some new springs for it, but I think I will just shoot reloads with the power dialed down a bit rather than spend big bucks on the adjustable gas system. That's 1953 Israeli surplus on the shooting table.

PS QVE = Berlin-Lübecker-Maschinenfabrik manufactured
