My new k98 arrived!

Some of you may know that I purchased a k98 off Accuracy Plus,
and it finally arrived. I'm not to sure on some of the details
of this k98. What do you guys think about it? It has a bcd 41
receiver that appears to have been scrubbed somewhat and a new
serial number with a W prefix added. The bolt is mismatched and
also has a W prefix in the serial number. No electro penciled numbers
on any parts. Most waffenamts, including the nice one on the stock,
are intact. The bore is nice and shiny and it should make a great shooter. Sorry for the oversize pics.

the metal loox good but the stamp on the stock is a little weird. looks like someone tried to make it look new but overall it looks good
 
You got Your self a really nice k98k for a good price. I tried to buy as soon as i saw it. I love the condition.If you
ever want to sell it let me know. I have a swp 45 isreali 7.62 in fair-good conditon on the way, cant wait until it arrives.

Post some pics once you get it. I'd be interested in seeing it. I have an ar 41 Israeli and it shoots pretty good.
 
It's a Yugo rework with the bolt numbered down the bolt handle to the round knob.

WaA195 is a Fake with the new made stamps.

Thanks. I never even thought about the Yugo k98 possibility. I suspected the stamp on the stock was a fake. It just didn't match the rest of the stock condition. It still looks neat and will be a great shooter.
 
If you paid over $600 I might be asking for a refund.
The stock cartouche WaA 135 is a fake (you can buy these stamps from Numrich Gun Parts).
The small WaA 63's are also fake (not correct for a bcd and can also be purchased from Numrich Gun Parts).
Probably is a nice shooter, but there are two blatant fake markings (not by accident).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
 
Well hopefully it's still worth something. I paid a lot less than 600.

So with the fake stamps, is it worth less than a regular Yugo capture? What are Yugo capture's going for these days?

I think you did OK. Id personally value it at around $4-500 depending on buyer. If someone wants a real mauser to hunt with or whatever its still great. Its been dicked with sure, so not as collectible but still a great shooter.
 
Besides the fake stamps it looks to be in really nice shape. Hopefully it turns out to be a good shooter.
Don't worry too much about what its worth now, just shoot the old war horse and enjoy it for what it is.

Measure your bolt length from the face to the rear, not including the cocking piece. If it measures 6 1/16", it's Yugo, if it measures 6 1/4", its standard K98 length. I'm thinking you may have been sold a reworked Yugo with German stamps, including the BCD and date. Probably doesn't matter if you bought it as a shooter only, but would really stick in my craw if purchased as a German K98 and it turned out to be a faked Yugo.

Now that you mention it, im not sure sure about the bcd and 41. 1 looks tilted a bit and the whole thing looks not square. Hard to say for sure. But with fake stock waa and receiver waa, it could all be bogus.

I'm thinking the whole rifle is humped. It looks okay and is probably a great shooter but if it was advertised as a German K98k it was misrepresented. Personally I would want a refund just on principle.
 
As for the bcd 41, the Yugo reworks were sanded down somehow (almost like with a long and skinny strip of emery cloth) on the receiver top as the numbers and letters are not very deep anymore due to the loss of the metal from sanding.
 
IMHO, the bcd41 mark is legit, but the receiver has been sanded at refurb and re-blued. All Yugo refurbs of K98k's I've seen have that look. The WaA marks on the side of the receiver are fake and the WaA on the stock is fake.

The rest of the rifle looks typical for a Yugo refurb.
 
So basically what I have is a legit Yugo rework that someone added a fake stamp to the stock and two fake waffenamts to the receiver. I'd agree the bcd 41 is legit because you can tell the stamping was done prior to the receiver being scrubbed/sanded.

It's really too bad about the fake stamps, but the Yugo capture's have their own unique history and it is still an interesting k98.

I was also curious about the blued butt plate. Is this normal for the YC k98's? Also do you think the fake stamps could be removed or is this just going to further decrease and bugger up the rifle's value?
