Because the XRAIL goes onto a semi auto, and all semi auto centerfire's are limited to 5 rounds...
"The XRAIL System magazine extender, which can be attached to semiautomatic shotguns, increases the magazine capacity to 22 cartridges (standard version) or 14 cartridges (compact version) which is more than the maximum-allowed capacity of five cartridges."

Some KSG thoughts...
1. The magazine selector lever can become loose. During firing and vigorous work of the pump, it can slip to the middle position and you will stop chambering shells. So keep an Allen key on hand to tighten it if necessary. There are after market replacement selector levers that claim to solve this problem.
2. That bottom rail is weak (on mine anyways). I have a stubby.VFG on but am paranoid I'll break it. seems fine for flashlights & such.
3. Mine seems to not like Federal brand slugs, the case expands such that I get really hard extractions. Twice the extractor slipped off on me. Other ammo, including other slugs, tend to work fine. Wish there was an extractor upgrade like you could get in a Remington 870.
4. Despite all that, still my favorite shot gun.

Buy something to cushion the recoil. Shooting high brass/00 buck and slugs can make the shoulder a little sore after awhile. A "decelerator" (brand name) or something like that to absorb blow. A forward grip is a must (I put a AFG on it). Other than that, learn how to rack it properly and have at er.....

I can't justify laying out the cash for one of these as I bought a 14" Fabarm Pro Forces and a 14" Mossberg 590A1 (both on sale) for around the retail price of the KSG.
I'm sure it's fun, but it won't be replacing my tried and true 5+1 pump shotguns. If they come down in price, I'd consider one.

I didn't think my KSG would ever replace my 590A1 or 870P but the more I shoot my KELTEC the more my low capacity pumps gather dust, I even ordered a OD green KSG to go with my Patriot Brown
I agree. The more I shoot my KSG the more I want to keep shooting it.
Anyone got any good forward vertical grip recommendations for the KSG? I was looking into getting Crimson traces MVF-515 but don't really like how long it is. Plus I've read the buttons are super stiff and I'd have to get a rail extension to fit it. I was hoping to get a good light/laser combo, but I also want a normal solid grip. Something that won't come flying off or loosen after I put a few rounds through it.

I've been running a basic magpul hand stop on my ksg and am quite pleased with it. I've had it on there for at least a year with no issues.

I got one of these on right now, but it's a bit hard on the hands - hard aluminum, and a bit of a "corner" near the top portion of it that pushes into the hand. I get a minor bruise on the inside of my left thumb after a day of shooting.
