Yeah, I am using the 115 NBT's with 49.0 grains of RL-19 now (as always work up)... thinking back now, I think I had run out of the NBT's when I owned the RL and the local store only had Hornady 117 SST's instock... they were just as accurate anyway.

I have a M77 Ruger .270 that I purchased new in 1974 so I fully appreciate the Ruger M77. My .270 easily shot MOA or less if I did my part. I cannot see much, if any, difference between the 77 and the 77R so I expect the same level of performance.

The "R" only means "Rifle - no sights"... it was the same designation for both the M77 and M77 MKII... is your new 7X57 a MKII?

LOL...funny you should ask that Hoytcanon. I was going to ask you if the 7x57 is a long or short action? It just "feels" like it is a shorter action than my old 270. And thanks for the clarity on the "R"...it had me wondering.

For the first time since purchasing the rifle I was finally able to sit down and "fondle" it and get to know it better. Something had been rattling around in my brain asking questions. I think it was the black plastic stock (each to their own I know but this plastic stock looks and feels absolutely terrible) that threw me off to thinking it was a MKII but everything about the action was the same as my 1974 Ruger 77. So that got me wondering what part of my "assumptions" I had screwed up this time??

Yeah...it's a M77 with the standard tang safety built in 1981 according to the Ruger serial number look up.

So break out the crow guys and I'll get the ketchup to help me eat it.

No need..... that is a fine rifle......

7x57 is a "standard" action btw...... so its made as a long as Ruger only has the two options...... like most manufacturers.....

As Superbrad says; Ruger makes three action lengths, short (short Magnum), standard (Long), and the Magnum action used in the RSM's and some African models. Yours is the "Standard" length, most commonly referred to as "Long" (LA). If your tang safety rifle is in a synthetic stock, it is likely to be an aftermarket stock... if you prefer walnut with the blued metal, I can keep an eye out for you and perhaps land you a nice walnut stock to drop your barrelled action into. PM me if interested and I will contact my network of Ruger trading partners.

Thanks for the offer, I will contact you on PM. When I bought the rifle I figured that eventually I would get around to replacing the stock but every time I handle it I get a whole body shiver....it's that bad. So "later" is going to be "sooner"...lol

I just shot my first few in the Ruger 77 and it seemed to like 36gr of BL-C2 under the 117 SST's. Not the quickest load but was very accurate. Going to try some H414 next and see how that shoots, I think I can probably get an extra 200fps out of that powder.
 
They’re a great rifle, it was a shot show special back in 2012. I had ordered one as soon as I heard they were going to be produced as I was scheduled for rotator cuff surgery in the summer and was unsure of what my shoulder could handle by fall. Fit and finish was a lot better than my 2009 baco made M70 270win featherlight and the wood was beautiful. It now sits quietly in the back of my safe, patiently waiting for it’s next use or when my daughter get’s old enough to shoot.
 
I have the twin this gun .. but was made 257 A.I. before I got it .. Shooting 117 SST over 50 grains of 4831 .. right around the 2950 fps mark. I like it a lot . shoots an inch group most times and have had 1 1/2 groups from it too .. but is very capable of taking game for sure
