I just received my new M-14S from Marstar yesterday. While it’s not perfect, it is pretty good for what I paid and I'm quite happy with it. It's for sure great value.

The fist thing I noticed was the gas port appears to be cast, as it has some "ripples" in the metal. Other than that, the finish on all the EXPOSED parts was pretty good with virtually no machining marks. SOME of the unexposed parts, like the underside of the receiver, had strong machining marks, but this is just like an original. Over all the grey colour of the finish was remarkably uniform and far better that I had expected.

The stock was much better that I expected too. I had heard of a lot of complaints re: the "Chinese mystery wood" used in some, and the finish on my Norinco’s SKS stock was to be blunt, ####ty, so I was not expecting much. However I was very pleasantly surprised by the fit, finish and colour on this M-14S stock. All I found were some VERY slight sanding marks that were only visible if you look real close.

Over all my initial impression is that this rifle is easily worth a couple of hundred more that I paid for it. In fact I’m pretty sure Marstar would have sold out of these even if they had been listed at for $600, rather than the current $399.

I will not get a chance to shot it until Sat morning at the PCHFC, so I can’t report on how well if fires till I get a back to work on Monday.

Cheers Mark
PS I like to thank John & Marstar for bringing these in and keeping the price so affordable. I just wish I had ordere a 2nd one.
