My new M305 - to SOCOM or not to...

Hi Guys,

I haven't even received it yet, and already I want to have it "SOCOM" 'd by Valley gunsmithing, or some other reputable outfit. :)

I just love the look of these rifles when shortened and with the "navy" style front sight added.

Are there any contraindications for this procedure (aside from a slight velocity loss...)?

Your thought, esteemed shooting brethren?

Well I got a pile of them last time and I intend to SOCOM one of them Jeff at VGS says he won't be able to even get to it until Jan.. So I'll try to make my way up there early in the new year and give him the shopping list...

I will want to try mine out for awhile as is to get a point of reference established. But sure as shootin' it's gonna' be making the trip to Valley at some point.

I say go for it. I was the first to get his M14 SOCOM'd by Jeff and think that it makes a really good rifle better. I love the way mine shoots and handles.
 
I sent my 305 to Valley and I am very satisfied!!!! :dancingbanana:
Jeff Smith Does an excellent job on these conversions! It took a few months to get it back ( do to waiting for parts) But worth the wait !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!:cool:
 
Thanks a lot guys! I had heard good things before - but this just cements it.

In the New Year sometime I'll do this - after I've put a few hundered rounds downrange the way it comes.

Not to be picky but the Socom model has a 16 " barrel while the Scout has a 18.5 "barrel and yes Jeff does great work
 
The barrell cutdown is about 75$, threading is about 35$ and the cost of the flash hidder depends on the model you want...
 
Jeff does the modification, with no change to the "classification" of the rifle. I like Jeff, good guy and a excellent gunsmith. He is doing a SOCOM conversion with a SAGE stock for me. He is busy so expect to wait, but its worth it IMO.You may want to contact him with respect to how his parts stock is? a good FYI for yourself.
 
I was at Jeff's shop yesterday and he had just cut down 3 x M305 barrels... so there are three more SOCOM's almost ready.

Some guys are going to have a very Merry Christmas.
 
How does the registration work for cut down barrels? Do they have to registered again, but as restricted??

I'm already saving up for my next M14!! I'm going the 18.5 scout length or the minimum possible to to stay as non-restricted.
