Look at what arrived this morning.:dancingbanana:
I got it from a fellow GunNut.
It is a custom Mauser 98 9.3x62 built in Germany, with a Lothar Walther barrel, set trigger and EAW pivot mounts.

I just can't get over the quality of the gun and bluing, Germans sure know how to build a nice rifle!

I have never seen such a perfect deep blue, the pictures do not do it justice.

Whoa...that is a beauty man, congradulations. I like your choice of scope, too...gloss of course to go with that deep blue. Range report for sure. ;)

Thanks for all the replies.

I need some help with picking a scope.
I'm stuck between a Leupold FX-II 4x33mm or VX-II 2-7x28mm Ultralight.

I don't really need the compactness of the Ultralight but Leupold doesn't make a standard length VX-II with a small objective lens and gloss finish.
I also never really use the power adjustment on my variable scopes so I'm thinking a fixed 4x33 would be fine too.

I have to pick a scope before I can order the rings, because if I go with the Ultralight it will need rings with a longer front extension to fit on the short tube.

Any ideas? What should I get?

9,3x62

you should pick a scope within you can zoom close to 200 Meters to shoot a moose or a bear, with this Rifle you can shoot 200 Meters.

Another option is you use two EAW mounts one with a Red dot another with a scope. decide during your hunting trip. The EAW mount allows you to switch from one to another in a few seconds without loosing the zero point.

Iàm glad that you are happy with it. Dont forget that you can use the trigger in two ways. If you make it ready to shoot push the trigger toward the muzzle than works the trigger like a matchtrigger, or use the trigger just as a shotgun trigger.

@all others who ask for Range Report: With this Rifle I shoot groups in one hole on 100 Meters with 18,5 gramm Bullets ( Norma ) . It is a good gunsmith work. I`ve got the same Rifle again in the Cal. 8mm Mauser.

Really nice rifle. Scoping depends on the range of your shots. I am not familiar with this cartridge, but a guideline I use is...If you are shooting under 200 yards a good quality fixed 4X scope won't let you down. Over 200 (especially if you're going to shoot 400 or more) and you definitely need more zoom on your scope.

I'm going with the FX-II 4x33, the Ultralight depending on the power setting has up to an inch less eye relief.
I have avoided getting scope eye this far and I don't want that to change. ;)

Andreas, that is a good idea about having a red dot in another set of rings, I just might do that.
