Glad to hear your lovin yours i hope to get one soon as well ive neve been a red rifle or is it a milsurp now? Fan until i got my sks now i want them all!

I got a 1943 izzy from them last week. It's got a couple tula stamped small parts (front and rear band) and an east german stamped cocking piece. Wood is in pretty decent shape, painted reciever, some bluing wear on the front sight/barrel in front of the wood. Couple of small stock repairs. For $129 it's a pretty good deal. Even though i asked for a Tula, if not Tula then 1930s, if not then with a good stock :)

I'm not sure about the bore :$ I've been plugging the chamber with a foam earplug and soaking with solvent overnight, brushing and patching, and each time it looks dirtier than before, with all the crud coming out. I'm thinking i need to get some wipe-out (if i knew where to find some) and get her REALLY clean before I slug it. Rifling looks strong, standart izzy toolmarks, but dirty as hell! No counterbore. If you ask, they will tell you that they do not check the bores.

It's amazing the crap that comes out of them eh?.... I soaked mine in a warm varsol bath in my varsol cleaning station, agitated the parts every few minutes,That took the nasties right out of it. All my parts are Izzy stamped, right down to the forestock rings, and the only force matched part is the lower magazine door.

I was doing a bit of reading, and i can't tell if any of my parts are force matched. All the parts usually serialed are numbered alike, but there's no typeset numbers, as in, even the reciever was stamped by hand. They used the same stamps on all parts, all hand stamped. Apparently, Izzys wers often hand stamped as they were fast-production guns.

Overall the gun looks pretty good. When i get around to it, it's going to get a shot of wood stripper, paint stripper, a good polish, and some cold blue. Haven't decided on the BLO, i kinda want to use shellac to keep it authentic.

Fore sure MW.. These puppies were barely let cool before being numbered and sent to the front... Forced match can sometimes take a good long look @ the serial numbered areas. Firstly you might see the lines of a grinder or file of where they removed the previous rifles #'s that part was fitted to prior to stamping your serial in it. Sometimes that doesn't work as they used a light touch, but then if you use a magnifying glass you may see the remains of an older # or two. But theres no reason to think you have any force matched parts, as I've seen loads of Russian military rifles that are all completely original. You might have struck it lucky.. :)

I'm leaving mine "as retired"... Even though i have a major urge to have the blueing refurbished... But the Fluid Film has sunk into the steel and made it a nice dark color again. :)

I'm not sure if you've found this site yet, but this site has every piece of Mosin information that exists ... http://7.62x54r.net/

Enjoy your Mosin Nagant, Shoot it often, Clean it well, and you'll never have an issue with it.

Very Very nice collection. I want an M44 soon! I'm going to buy another SKS or 2 as collectors and another M91/30 as a collector. I never really thought about commie guns before i stumbled upon my SKS... Since then I haven't looked back. They've grown on me big time. Are your rifles "as retired", or have you refinished the stocks?

they are not touched except the svt 40. she was beat to death when i bought her, most of the finish on the stock was coming off so i stripped the stock. under the finish i found lots of factory stamps and even a soviet star lightly stamped into the butt. ill post more pics if you want. sorry for the high jack. on a side note i shoot these rifles all the time and the m44 is going to be this years deer rifle.

cheers
