My new Remington 5R is a shooter

I picked up a new Remington 5R .308 last week. The scope is an old Bausch & Lomb 12x-32x with a 1" tube I've had since 1988. I really have to get new optics for this rig. I also upgraded the trigger to a Timney.

I had it out to 50 yards and groups were from .05" to .25". I was very impressed.

Load used (I have done zero load development as of yet):

- 175 Berger long Range Target bullets
- 42 Grains Varget
- 2.8"
- Lapua Palma brass
- Federal Match AR primers

This morning I took her out to 100 yards. It was a little chilly out and my numb hands and slight shivering didn't make it any easier to shoot.

Groups ranged from 0.233" to 0.715". A cross section of some of my 100 yard groups (best and worst included):

Conclusion:
Overall I am very happy with the gun. The trigger is just excellent. I need a new scope badly. The glass is OK, but the reticles are so thin, they fuzz out when on target. I am thinking of upgradng to a Sightron. I suspect that with a better scope, load development and me doing my job, this baby would be a fairly consistent .5 MOA shooter.

I can't wait to stretch her legs and get her out to much longer ranges. I'm hoping for a decent shooter out to 1000 yards.

Shoot some 5 shot groups and you have a rifle for the ".75 groups all day" thread. Nice shooting.

No eyeball focus on the scope? If the reticle blurs then it is set wrong. Good shooting, the 5Rs are excellent rifles out of the box.

There is an eye focus and I tried every setting. No luck. I have an astigmatism. The super thin reticles blur really quickly. For some reason I don't have this problem with my more modern scopes (Leupolds and Bushnell's).

The reticles on the scope are insanely thin. I've never seen anything like it on a newer scope.
