My New Rig - Winchester M70 w/ Nikon M308 (pics)

After months of careful debate, countless YouTube videos, endless forum posts (thank you CGN!) and many sleepless nights checking out every gun website I could find, I finally decided on my very first rifle and scope. Being extremely excited about this awesome purchase, I made sure to get myself a good night's sleep, had some breakfast, gathered my notes (I really went full-on nerd) and headed out to buy my new rig.

Turns out I was wasting my time with all the research because I ended up buying a random rifle I knew absolutely nothing about.

Say hello to my new Winchester Model 70 Coyote Outback .308 with Nikon M-308 4-16x42 BDC 800 scope:













***BTW, this is my first shot at taking gun pics... Not as easy as I thought it would be...

I took my new toy out to the range over the weekend and had a great time. With a little help from one of the super cool RSOs, I was able to get on paper and put a couple OK groups together. They were nothing to brag about but a personal best, so I consider them a win. :)

I have run 100 rounds through the M70 and it has performed flawlessly so far. The action is as smooth as silk and I could shoot this thing all day. The Nikon M308 is pretty awesome too. Clear glass, seems tough and easy to use. Very responsive and I was able to walk my shots to dead centre with ease.

Take my opinion for what its worth; I really don't know much about anything. The one thing I can definitely say is that I love this rig and I can't wait to get back to the range. If you know anything about either this rifle or scope, please share. I'd love to hear about some of your experiences, good or bad.

Yeah, I'm curious to know what you set out to buy as well. Don't let that research go to waste! :) In the meantime enjoy the new rig, it looks great!

I was originally looking at a Tikka T3 HB Varmint with a Vortex Viper 6.5 - 20 x 50.

I couldn't find a T3 HB in stock anywhere and was far too impatient to wait on a backorder. I was also talked out of the Vortex scope as Nikon has adopted the same warranty and was told it was a better bank for my buck. True? False? I'm not sure. However, I have no regrets at all.
 
Thanks for the kind words everyone! I'm super excited about heading back to the range this weekend. I'm also gonna give the MOA challenge a shot. Cant wait to get out and shoot!!!

Let me tell everyone a story about Mr Clarke...

As an excited first time buyer, Mr Clarke was the perfect sales guy. He dealt with all my ridiculous questions, quelled all of my noob concerns and made buying my first rifle a very positive experience. He was patient, informative and extremely helpful. I had dealt with #######s at various retailers, who spent most of their time telling me that the calibre I chose was wrong, preached their preference and pushed their product like I was at a flea market. Thankfully, Mr Clarke was super supportive, understood my position and helped me make a decision on a purchase I had debated forever. I could not be happier with my M70 and have zero regrets.

I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to Sail in Woodbridge to purchase a firearm from you. I feel you gave me a great start in a hobby I love more and more every time I hit the range.

Hey Johnny, I too had positive results from my drop in to the Sail store. I found their prices a little higher than Epps or Flahertys, but nice folks to deal with. You don't mention which ammo you're using, but my suggestion is to try different brands and bullet weights to find out what your rifle likes the best.
