Picked this up here on the EE.Got a buy on the gun and the deal went smoothly.Great transaction!
Went to the Range this morning and zero'd in at 20 yds.Headed back tonight for the regular wed. night shoot.
Currently waiting for my forest camo laminated thumbhole stock to arrive in the mail and a Trigger kit....im impressed it's quite an accurate gun!

Congrats, very nice shooting guns. What trigger kit are you getting? You'll like it so much more with a new stock, the black plastic one sucks with the high Williams peep. I did this to mine instead of going the replacement route.

And this was what it shot like with a couple types of ammo. Zeroed for standard, the blazer shot a few inches high at 50 and not as tight.

I zero'd mine at 20 yd with CCI sub sonics. That stuff shoots best in all my target guns.I like what you did with yer stock too!I can't tell by the pics...how did you attach that piece to your stock?Oh yeah...an apache trigger kit.

Thanks, it's a piece of a lawn mower guard I heat formed and screwed onto the stock with wide flat profile black finishing screws. I also laid stick on wheel weights in the barrel channel and in the buttstock for balance. Nice rifle, though I sold it a while ago to finance other interests.

I've never heard of the apache kit, is it just a spring swap? I cut the trigger spring on mine and got it down to about 1.5#-3.5# adjustment.

I know there's a new smaller spring and 2 pins...seems to me there's another part too but I can't recall right off.Gotta check the site again...

Congrats on a fine rifle.

My club uses the single shot versions of that same FVT for the Jr .22 program. I've gotten to shoot the rifles quite a few times and they are more than capable of some great accuracy.

Mikeystes is right about the height of the comb. I recently molded a Kydex riser and attached it up where the bolt just barely slides by the comb. It now provides the right height for a pretty good number of folks from the kids to us adults. Makes getting a good sight picture with a good cheek weld just about automatic. It's well worth doing such a modification.

Another option would be to find a replacement laminate stock that has a high comb. A stock like the BTV thumbhole stock or something equivalent from an aftermarket source. Then you'd have ###y AND effective all wrapped up in one go.

I got this coming in the mail...should be able to get steady with peeps using this stock.

Nice stock halftail,

The laminate stock will balance well with the bull barrel. Its too front heavy with the synthetic stock. Where did you pick up the apache kit? I am interested in one for my Savage BTV 17HMR
Cheers,

Oh yeah!..... that'll do nicely.. :D

It's funny but we'll eventually have the same setup. But where you started with the FVT and will add the thumbhole stock I'm doing it the other way around. I picked up an Anchutz rear peep at a gun show two years ago. I finally bought the Savage BTV thumbhole rifle with the idea that once my machine shop is set up again that I'll make a dovetail mount for the rear sight and cut a dovetail in the front of the barrel for a Lyman globe front sight.

So we'll end up with the same looking rifle in due time but we'll have gotten there by totally opposite directions... :D
