My New Sig PE 90

They're probably the best 5.56/.223 platform available to civies for the uses and how we get to play with them. Tack drivers, very durable, and extremely well made sums them up. A lot of slick standard features, like the tritium night sights. I like them considerably better than AR's (not a huge AR guy, no clue why I have a safe full of them  )

Nothing like the toys you get to play with at work though Lee... :D But these are great for target punching, and mine goes on gopher duty.

So, are these rifles really worth the cash?
Or is the main draw that they are non-restricted and you can take them to play with almost any where?
I'm considering getting one, but it is a huge layout of $$$$$$, so any advise would be great.....
People who have em say:ALL OF THE ABOVE. I'm not blessed with the ownership of such top quality hardware, but that's what i heard.

I recently aquired one as well. The fit and finish is really nice, and it is one sweet rifle. Out of the box, the trigger is very nice. PE90's are outstanding!

Our U.S. Neighbours would love to be able to get their hands on these since the Assualt weapons ban of 1994 banned their import to the U.S.

Us Canucks should feel lucky that we can get some of these cool toys (+ the $399.00 Norc M14/M305, and Short barrelled rifles with no hassles)thats the U.S. shooters can't get.:p ;) :D

I personally feel that the Sigs are still over priced.I don't think they are worth $3000.00.............Maybe $2000.00..........But after seeing & feeling how they shoot & seeing the features on them, I had to have one.....

Now to save up and get the CQB version next............;)

Any local CGNs see me at the range, you will be more then welcome to "bust a few caps" and experience the Swiss/Sig aura first hand......:D

I don't want to sound like I'm slagging 'em, but what makes the PE90 better than the AR15 (price issues aside)? Is an out-of-the-box PE90 more accurate than an out-of-the-box AR with a chromed HBAR? What about an accurized AR15 (freefloated, lighter trigger)?

With an AR, you get a forged receiver, but a dirty action. With a PE90, you get a stamped receiver, but a clean piston-driven action. Is the PE90 more accurate and/or reliable than the AR15?

Cleaning.....
I dreaded cleaning the Swiss Arms.....the gas plug, gas cylinder and gas piston are hard to clean. It's like cleaning the C9/Minimi/M249 gas system. Yeh, you can ignore it but the day of reckoning is furious once you have to clean the gas system with a scraping tool. The AR is more dirty inside the receiver but I can get it cleaned much faster. Now, I am waiting for the swiss snobs to shout me down......

Nothing a good $1000 ultrasonic cleaner can't solve? ;)

So how would it shoot with winchester whitebox? Does it have a 5.56 chamber? Is it chromed in all the right places? :D :D

What I like about the AR, is that even when it's dirty, a dash of quality CLP will dissolve the carbon and keep it running, and then it's a wipe-down away from being clean. Is it the same with the PE90, or does it come to a point that you have to stop, disassemble and clean to get it going again?

Thanks

Just a small point but with an AR you get a forged aluminum receiver, with the Swiss Arms rifles you get a stamped, steel receiver. This is an apples to oranges comparison, as the steel receiver is way, way stronger than any aluminum receiver.
Yes the Swiss Arms rifles are more reliable, and they are more durable. Accuracy is similar on out of the box stock guns.

People often forget that when they buy a Swiss Arms rifle, they are paying alot for the QC that is done at the factory.
Every gun is test fired, every gun is sighted in, and every gun MUST place 10 shots into an 11cmx11cm square at 300m.
This is why there are not alot of warranty issues with them. Performance gains are small and hard to measure after a point, but to get them you will pay $$$.

Test fired...???..DARN...that would explain the brass ejection scratches on the new rifle.

Quality...definitely, performance...absolutely. I

Actually it was the change in the import regs under 18 USC 925(d)(3) in March, 1989, after the Stockton schoolyard shootings.

With an SKS you get a Precision MILLED steel reciever. One Sig Black rifle = 13 Sks-D's or 5 CZ 858's, or 7 1/2 Norinco M14's. What a bargain !! I must rush out and by a PE 90:rolleyes:

I have no doubt that if I am mad enough to part with my hard earned folding so easily, there will be dealers mad enough to take it.

Ummm..velcro is to protect the paint finish from the ejecting brass. :D

And yes, if you ever had the chance of standing on the right side of a shooter firing a PE90/CQB/SG55x, you will realize how far, fast, and hard the brass ejects  ...so duck before it hits you...!!!

he's usually standing right behind the rifle pulling the trigger, watching the brass fly:p
