My New Stevens

I just heard back from the gunsmith, after looking the gun over and firing some ammo other than what I had, and he says the problem was the initial factory ammo I was using was too hot.

It was Fusion 7mm-08, 140 grain rounds, lot #1 32V411

Apparently the Fusion rep has already offered to pay for the repairs and replace the two boxes of ammo I purchased.

Gun should be ready in a week.

Range report - finally

So after three months waiting to get parts in for my Stevens, they finally got here, and the gun was repaired in December. Today was the first chance I had to take it to the range and sight it in, and WOW was I impressed.

My best 3 shot group with Federal Power-Shok 150 grain was just under 1/2 an inch!!:D

I also used some Federal premium 140 grain, but it didn't shoot as well, putting the groups around 1 1/2 inches. Those are the only two types of ammo I was able to get my hands on (aside from more of the fusion, but considering my gun was out of commision for the entire hunting season last time I used it, I think I wll pass)

I just couldn't be more impressed with this gun.

My Springfield 1903 also shot really well at 7/8ths of an inch using the Fusion 180 grain, so I guess I can't compleatly boycott Fusion just yet.:p
