I got my Arisaka type 38 yesterday. I am new to japanese rifle and i must say that they are very very well made. As you can see,the type 38 is a long rifle, particulary with the bayonet. You can definitely stab a zombie without leaving your trench! Maybe an expert will came in to tell me more about my rifle. The metal is in great condition, mum is ground like most Arisaka, the bore is quite nice. The action is smoother than i was thinking, even the dust cover doesn't rattle too much. Unfortunatly, the stock is cracked, the seller didnt show that on the EE.... and the magazine spring was broke as well(i borrowed the one of my K98 until a source one) Let's see somes pics.

I might be able to help you out.....I need to look in the dungeon of a gun room that I have but I may have a "bubba" model 38....the mum is intact if memory serves me and the barrel has not been cut down ....I'll let you know

Stock fixed

I succeed repairing the cracked stock, the wood was free of oil so the carpenter glue worked very well. After gluing and clamping, i drilled pilots holes ad i put 2 reinforcement screws, letting the pieces clamped over night, then grinded the screw this morning. I still try to have the replacement stock i found just in case and we cant never had too much parts for Arisaka.
A syringe give me the chance to inject the glue deeply in cracks.
