I bought a Ruger stainless/canoe paddle in .338WM from the exchange and received it today. Great looking gun, can't wait to try it out this weekend!

I know, this thread is worthless without pics!:D

I have the same gun in 30-06. Very ugly. I tell folks I can paddle my canoe and dig my truck out of the mud with it. I wrapped mine up with camo duct tape years ago. So far it's brought home at least a dozen moose and several deer. Far more reliable that the Winchester featherweight it replaced - broke the stock on the Win., and it went click instead of bang twice when shooting at game. Never had a misfire with the Ruger.
 
You'll like the "canoe paddle" (or "buck rogers") stock.

On my Ruger Frontier 77 I changed the cute little laminated stock for a canoe paddle one too - to make it more utilitarian. It looks like crap - but works exceptionally well in my bear hunting world. I often use sticky smelly stuff to interest Yogi, some of which ends up on my hands and on the rifle stock. But after I paddle the boat a while, that canoe paddle stock cleans right up.:D

I have the same in 300win mag and 308win. I found a Limbsaver pre-fit recoil pad for the 300 - which will help tame the punch a bit.

I've got one in 30-06,I didn't like the looks of the canoe paddle at first but it kinda grows on you.2 moose and 2 deer so far with it.

I have a 338 canoe paddle as well. I never felt a thing when I shoot my bear/moose/elk with it. It is not my at the bench plinking gun.
