It's my first spotting scope. A friend suggested I get a spotting scope to make it easier at the range. It seemed like a good idea. I decided to get an older one figuring I could get more quality for less price. Here she is. A Mayflower model 830. 15-50X60. Made in Japan. Mostly metal. Originally bought in 1969. I paid $40US plus shipping. I know next to nothing about scopes.

Well, at risk of getting flamed by the "buy a $900 Model XYZ" gang, I think you did alright. It all depends on what you want to see at the range. For $40, it's worth a try!

The Japanese glass from that era was quite good. I saw another guy posted on a forum that he could see a .30 hole at 600yds "no problem" with that very scope. I'm suspicious about that but do let us know.

I think you got a great deal. Even if worst case scenario it is damaged it will still make a great piece of decoration in the home or cabin. It's got classic style.

It seems to work fine. No damage. I really don't have much reference to determine what is a good scope and what is a bad scope.Things seem to get a bit dim at the extreme end of magnification but I think that's just physics. I thought I would start with something older that still had quality. Learn what I like, what I don't like, what I need, and what I want for my next purchase. These days I seem to be into buying old and older tools and things.

You paid 40 bucks for that when there's a receipt that says they're less than $20 new?

Boy, they saw you coming.

Just kidding, looks cool.

If the lenses are clear and yer eye bawlzs think they see clear thru'er, well yeah dun gooder.
I've been on the hunt for one like that in the Spacemaster version.
