Yes, that is an older model.
Personally, I prefer the front sight on the older ones.

I got out shooting today. Was just messing around in the woods, had a good time.
Posted up in my tree stand looking for coyotes. I hit the distressed rabbit button on the electronic call ONCE and a yote came screaming in from behind me. A big one too. In the excitement I was moving around in the stand so I could see behind me and he saw me and took off. Pretty exciting, but couldn't get a shot at him. At least I know I'm in the right spot.

Make sure you pick the leftmost lane when shooting at the range, that way you can make lots of friends!
hahaha. yeah my mini-30 throws brass around 10 -15 feet right and about three feet up and about two feet back . quite fun to bounce some hot brass down someones shirt if their not paying attention.
Very nice mini-14 ! the wood stock looks amazing. that is an interesting rear peep sight. I've never seen a close up of one like that before. Congrats on joining the mini - 14 cult.
