Just took delivery of my new xmas present to myself a Snaphaunce fowler,20 ga 50" barrel.The lock is a thing of beauty,it even has a safety built in to it.
What a ABSOLUTE beauty....Words really cannot describe her!!
I cant see this being a production gun from any company.....I bet its a custom build!!...maybe with the rifleshoppe castings???
When you have time I would be very pleased to see the inner mechanics of the lock...
How does she differ from more modern standard flintlocks??
Is there a difference in lock speed??I have never shot a snaphaunce or even handeled one

You are right it was Custom made by Doc Gary White of White muzzleloading.It has a Rifle Shoppe English Snaphaunce lock and a 50" Rayl
20ga oct to round barrel.The difference between a Snaphaunce and a flintlock is that the pancover and frizzen are separate.The pan cover is connected to the #### or hammer by a connecting rod so that when the trigger is pulled the pan cover opens.At the rear of the #### you can see a
lever and that is a safety of sorts as snaphaunce doesn t have a half #### but in reality it doesn t need one as all you have to do is swing the frizzen back out of the way and (as its not connected to the pan cover) and your in business.I haven t shot it yet but will soon when the weather gets milder.Doc white plans on building another Snaphaunce but the next one will be in 12ga with a shorter barrel.You can see his other creations at White Muzzleloading and go to the Traditional page.I am planning on having him make me a 16ga double flint as well
