My new (used) press appears to be missing something!

This is my new to me lee 3 hole turret press. I cant figure out how to mount a shell holder to it because it appears to be missing a part on top of the ram. Does anyone know what that part is called? Or do i have to order an updated 4 hole kit from lee?








 
You need something similar to that in the link below. It's a replacement for the ram in a 4 hole press.

I don't see an equivalent part for a 3-hole press like yours in the Lee catalogue so my best advice would be to give Lee a call to work through compatibility issues, etc. Their call-centre is very helpful and responsive in my experience

Apart from the new Auto Index Ram, you might also want the "4-Hole Update Kit with Auto Index" (Lee p/n 90933) info here:

Both items should be in stock and available from Higginson Powders Inc. in Hawksbury, ON. (Google them)

Looks to me that the ram, at $7, is the part you actually 'need'. The rest of the stuff would be nice if you were going for production volume, but for the time being, you can like as not live without until you get your legs under you, so to speak, with the reloading process. Click the lower of those two links, then click the link for "Show Parts", and you should find it.

Coming from the perspective of one who has used a Lee Hand Primer for the last 25 or so years, and still uses a single stage press for everything, having to swap dies around does not really seem that great an inconvenience.

That's not a 3 hole turret press
What you have is what's left of a Pro1000 progressive press.
Lot's of missing parts
 
I believe that is an old Pro 1000 progressive press frame missing the "head" and a few other pieces as well. It is a somewhat different animal than a "rotary press". Probably can be made to work as a non-self-indexing rotary press if you can find a head for it or have someone manufacture a shell holder adapter to attach to the ram.
 
I'd be inclined to contact the person who sold you the press. There is indeed the shell plate carrier missing.
I hope you didn't pay a lot for it....
The shell plate carrier, a set of dies and the caliber-specific case feeder are all you need to set up a PRO 100 progressive.

N'er been that close to a Pro 1000. I do have a 3 hole turret right here, The base, and top appear the same as mine. The columns and ram do not.



EDIT ADD ON:
OP has one original looking column that has a wee bit extra on top, and the other 2 don't look at all like originals (one looks made up of smaller segments). The original ram might not come up high enough with the oddball columns.

That's because it's a Pro 1000
I know a little about Lee press's ;)

so if this is a pro 1000 there is 29 different set ups. Depending on what you paid for this ( I hope nothing) prices are not expensive but in long run I would suggest price out a new system and go from there this could take a long time to collect all the parts required to finally load something.

Wow this really sucks, Does anyone think a turret ram would swap out? I bought this press from the ellwood epps website for $30, it was listed as a turret press and i thought it was until i started to wonder how to attach a shell holder..... it is my first press.

You could also look at what you might need (shell plate? Head?) to add jusst to use it as a 3hole turret too(only $30 in). The pic I posted from midway was an ad, and it's worth more than $30... www .midwayusa.com/product/117429/lee-pro-1000-progressive-press

The shell plate and carrier conversion kit is $60 currently at Wholesale Sports. I was just looking at them the other day. This kit fits right onto the smaller end stub of the ram you have.

The downside is that the Pro 1000 is only good for shorter length ammo. That's reflected in the sizes that they sell the carriers and plates for. For longer rifle ammo it's not the right press at all.

For rifle work you'll want a new ram. Luckily they are swappable so the ram will fix you up. Or if you want to run a Pro 1000 progressive then the carrier and shell plate kit will fix you up. Note that in addition to the shell plate carrier kit you'll also need one of the disc holders that holds the primers and plugs into the chute that is included in the kit.

There's no doubt though that someone at P&D messed up by calling it a "turret press". It sort of is but it's only half there and lured you in with this wrong description.
