My new Volquartsen

be careful-

So, I'd been looking at rigging out a 10/22 but I started adding up the numbers:

Ruger 10/22 $350
Heavy BBL $200-400
Match Trigger $200-400
Stock $100
Match Bolt $100

Total $900-1200 and you're still stuck with a Ruger based set-up

So I started looking around, considered a HB 10/22, or copying what a few friends have done and buy a used one and option it up, then I came across the Volq website. I sent them an email asking about imports to Canada, they gave me a contact and 2 months later my new Volq 22 arrived in the mail today...unfortunately I have not figured out how to add pics yet  so no pics yet, but all I can say is wow, what a sweet set-up. The craftsmanship is a sight to behold, the BBL with compensator is a work of art and the trigger, wow, it might move 0.5 mm, I now know what the expression "breaks like glass" is talking about, have never had one even close to that.

If I figure out how to insert pics I'll get them up.......

The compensator works very well for decreasing de-stabilizing gas at the base of the bullet as it leaves the barrel.

However - the forward end of the compensator fills with lead at the corners unevenly and the gas then destabilizes the bullet.

The removable Volquartsen compensators allow cleaning often - before lead build up.

Yours is fixed and difficult to clean.

Use a spray compensator cleaner often - BECAUSE - once the molten lead roots - it will be nigh on impossible to get the sh!t out short of maching the compensator off and scraping it out -

Thanks for the tip, when you say spray compensator cleaner what do you mean, a specific compensator cleaner or just plain old bore cleaner?

I keep forgetting to bring a camera for range pics. I've probably put 1000 rnds through it so far. Here's what I've found:

It loves Win Target and ironically the el-cheapo Win 22 bulk stuff you buy at Wallyworld.
Hates Federal Gold Match?!?!? Will jam 1-2 times in every 25 rd mag.

Wow, what a dream to shoot, all my friends who have 10/22's and have shot it are jealous, 2 have ordered Volq's as a result.

I can get a very small 5 shot grouping at 100M.

I can empty a 25 rnd mag in rapid fire into a grouping about a 2" group.

I can hit the chicken 6-8 out of 10 times at the FMM range (~225M). It's great fun, you can fire, settle the scope down from the minimal recoil and watch for the impact (ok, the chicken does not swing like when it's hit with a 223 or 308, more like you can see the splatter of the bullet).

At a range that probably has more exotic toys (the old more money than brains syndrome....) I've yet to see another one, and everyone always has questions.

It's been great for practicing my technique and has helped my 223 and 308 shooting immensely...I was developing a serious flinch with my 308 but have not fired it for the past 2 months now and my flinch is gone.

The case, well, it sucks don't buy one.

Will get pics sometime, off next week so might get out on my own so won't be in a rush.
