My new VZ 585

Metallic chips, eh?
That shouldn't be coming from the bore. If you using a metal cleaning rod without a bore guide you could be shaving off bits of the rod on the crown of the barrel.

Your rifle is probably fine.

I asked when I was about to purchase it and was told that it did have a chrome lined barrel. I'll call the shop and see what they say.

And that might be the case, I wasn't using a bore guide while using a metal rod. Thanks for the replies. I'll post my findings. :)

It seems to look alright, I was more annoyed at the fact that I bought it and it hadn't been cleaned.. when you assume the rounds that were fired was that corrosive surplus ammo it gives you an uneasy feeling after spending that kind of money. Thats all.

Hey folks

I just purchased a new 585 the other day and have a couple questions..

I cleaned the bore beore I shot it and noticed that it had some greyish residue come out, I knew that the rifle was test fired at the factory as there was a target sheet in the box with holes in it. I could only assume that surplus ammo was used and now I fear my barrel might not be in nearly as good of shape as it should be for a gun thats new :( After putting about 60 rounds through it and giving it a good clean I can see the odd flake of what looks like chrome chips coming out on the peice of cloth I'm running through the barrel..

I guess my question is, should I feel screwed already?
If you baught it new from a store don't worry and just give it a good cleaning. Now if you got it second hand...
Well then look into these 2 products.

and as for the chrome flakes there is nothing you can do. Although I heard that Rauch Tactical was offering to "Chrome Line the Barrel", so you may want to contact him.
