My Night train 2 clone in 30 06

have you actually read this?

You really won't want to read this:
http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/2797707/1

I wouldn't touch one of these with a ten foot pole. Bolt can spontaneously disassemble, causing injury to the shooters face. This isn't the only place I've read about this, this one has a lot of the details, including the decision of the court in a lawsuit against mossberg.

Fyi, I have as well as the same one here on CGN. If you read it you would find:

1. not lots of actual information about plaintiffs except they are "son of a guy I went to school with" and other imaginary people.
2. pictures of a bolt that could not possibly have fired a cartridge or flown out of a firearm under spring pressure as the firing pin spring is still loaded under spring tension
3. That the outcome of the actual legal action against mossberg went essentially in mossbergs favor. The only failing on mossbergs part was to omit from the owners manual that "if you break the gun due to negligence, and fix it yourself, and don't fix it right, it may explode" I will post the link to the court documents below.
4 that anyone who would represent this client is looking for a quick paycheck and not a positive outcome, and questionable legal expertise
5 people are banned from firearms ownership for a reason as this guy apparently was.

http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/florida/flmdce/8:2007cv00262/190822/185/0.pdf?ts=1270855262

my favorite part of the court documents:

where the plaintiff had thrown the gun against the wall when drunk and broken it, then put it back together himself and had his neighbor look at it as it was sticky, the neighbor told him that it wasn't right and offered to drive him to get a new bolt.

Snobs eh? There might be a chance that some of these so called "snobs" actually know what they are talking about here.

The Mossberg rifle is not very popular here for good reason, but aside from that many of the comments here were good advice to aid the OP and not snobbery at all.

Sorry, but it seems like, on this site, Mossberg is trashed because it does not cost $1000. My .30-06 shoots loonies at 100yds and yet I have been told that is impossible. Such a rifle is trashed by many here who were yet quite happy spending $1500 on a brand-new Ruger #1 in .303Br that shoots 3"+ groups, and were bragging the rifle up! Seems if you didn't spend that $1000 as an entry cost, the rifle you chose is useless. I get 3" groups from an 1898 LEC .303Br and it only cost me $25.
That's okay, I'll stick with what I know I can do with my rifles. From where I sit, I have seen plenty of gear (not just gun) snobs on this site.

Not only Mossbergs either... but the same often applies to forums on just about any site you care to mention. It's not limited to guns. Same goes for dirtbikes, archery, etc., etc. "Entry level" pricepoints often invite negative comments. It's just a fact of life I suppose. Ya gotta have the negative to balance out the positive.

Anyway, to the OP, where did you get the sunshade?

WRONG ...... There's lots of good press here on cheap rifles. Try reading up on Marlin X7s and Savages and guess again. Crap is crap, cheap or not.

My mossberg 4x4 was absolute crap, but I met someone who had one and loved his. If someone tells me theirs is a good shooter, I believe them. Would I buy another mossberg centerfire? Not at this time. But that's because I got a lemon, and would not have confidence in the rifle. Glad to hear your rifle is performing well.

When you paint your rifle, post the results here.

Well i guess one mans definition of crap is another mans definition of a good affordable accurate shooter.I have a stevens 200 that will outshoot allot of those supposed "quality" rifles! it came with a chinese package bushnell scope and a less than perfect trigger but after initial sight in i was grouping all my shots MOA to sub MOA at 100 yards. Why would i spend hundreds of dollars more on a rifle thats going to be hunted and bounced around on my quad or on the back of my skidoo?sure im upgrading the trigger and i am also putting better optics on it but in the end i will have a great rifle at an affordable price.I love reading these comments and posts from guys who have safes full of rifles and seem to know everything there is to know about them but then i also see lots of adds in EE with rifles fo sale that aparently have never seen the light of day? "safe queens" Do these members collect or shoot?
well i shoot!
and i say the cheap guns are good value!

Correction SOME Cheap rifles are good value not all! Ohhhh and by the way Your stevens is a DAMN fine rifle!!!

I don't know a thing about that rifle but I hate that scope. Why anyone puts anything more than a 3-9X40 on a rifle like this is beyond me. A Burris FF2 or a Bushnell elite or redfeild is the cheapest glass worth mounting in my opinion.

Good on you OP. Nice looking rifle. Thinking about getting a 4x4 with a fixed 10x40mm scope chambered for 30-06.

Also, That range looks Very familiar, heh. Don't see too many people out that way during winter, unless they've got SKS's.

Why don't I buy a different Gun? Because I know a 4x4 will shoot sub 1" at 100 yards. Which is great for what I want. Namely? Bringing new people into shooting. People my age thinking about getting into shooting aren't impressed by wood stocked guns, at shoot .5" at 100 yards. Why? Because their dumb that's why. All they want is tacticool. And the 4x4 with it's vented forend, fluted barrel, and muzzle brake is All Tacticool, while being just accurate enough that I can enjoy it at the range. On top of that, it's cheap enough that I don't mind letting new shooters play with it.

Also, all the hate for mossberg on this forum is terrible. Sure, there are a handful of reports of random exploding guns, but Mossberg took care of that. Even if they didn't, I bet you look hard enough I can find a case of ANY firearm malfuctioning in such a way that it injured people. Because, In EVERY SINGLE case of those bolt lugs failing to engage, you have Document evidence of user stupidity taking the bolt apart and probably not putting it back together correctly.

Hell, I'd love to know how many people have had their fingers blown off reloading Derringers the wrong way, Bet it's in the Tens of Thousands, but you never hear any complaints about THEM being crappy guns.
