My Norinco Type 97 Shorty - Range Report Post # 80!!!!

I was talking 95s long before that. I was hoping 95s and that great round would come in. Oh well! I will settle for the $800ish 97A.

Deckard i don't see your posts, you're on my ignore list cause you talk/post to much. :D kidding.;)

I hate going through 3300 posts in a thread to find a certain point of info. If only the search was better....

I got to say its ugly as sin but if it works well and semi accurate I might bite. I'm still thinking the Tavor carbine is worth 2 type 97's...;)

There are very few guns outside of China
chambered in that cartridge.
No matter how great it would be,
people would hate to have
a work-horse gun in an odd cartridge.
Not to mention how hard is to find ammo for it.
223 is available everywhere and everybody loves it.

Look how hard it is to find bulk ammo at
reasonable prices for some of the
most used calibers in the world: 7.62x39, 308, 9mil, etc.
People complain even about the availability of 223.

Forgive my ignorance in this matter, but can someone explain to me why this gun is restricted? I had thought that ANY bullpup design was considered prohib. What the deal, what makes this one special? Also, are there other bullpup models that are available in the restricted category?

Guess I have to keep myself more up to date......

Welcome - do a search as this has been discussed to death. The repeated questions regarding this also makes the older members a little ticked....

Clobb, when do you plan to go back on the range for a 2nd tour?

Would like you to test few things such as reverse, on the side and speed fire when all parts are really hot. Just to find out if things are going well.

Also, did you adjust the sight? will it hold with the rail?

I just hate you now!!! I really hate you !!
Guess I will pass the order in 2 weeks as soon as I will receive my over time check...still, I hate you!!:D

PS: thanks for the infos requested!!

LOL - I'll be back soon. I have a video of my buddy where Gas is rising out of the gun like a kettle after a couple of fast mags. I ran several mags at full rapid fire and no problems. I shot the rifle until it was much too hot to even brush the barrel with your hand and no malfunctions. I didn't do any Ninja rolls or side firing but it sounds like fun:D...next time.

Check your PM's....

Clobb

Can you still use the iron sight when the RS mount is on?

And, is the 97 rail like this?

With the wall in the front, how did you slide the RS mount on?

Cheers!

That "wall in the front" is the recoil stop (lug) for the rail.
I think someone was asking earlier.

The part of the scope assembly that matches that rail
has the same pattern of the rail, but inverted.
So, it goes down thru the notches and slides forward
few milimeters until it is against the recoil lug.

Deckard may want to translate this in french :D

The realsword one doesn't do that - it just doevtails over the whole thing and two top screws hold it in place. Not a great design IMO but should work OK since it's only a .223.

I don't understand what you want to say with "realsworld".
If some chinese company wanted to take shortcuts
when making civvie scope rails, I'm not aware of that,
but you are more than welcome to post pix.
I have seen few military scopes and they all have the same rail.
CGN member 22ShortImproved has 4 different military models
all with the same scope rail and they all mount and lock
in the way I said above.
The only one that I have seen different is
the one on the 308 prototype,
probably it was borrowed from something else,
because it had a removable adaptor.

Do you have to drill the holes for these screw? I don't see anything were the screw can pass true. Or is it 2 screw on each side that will hold the pressure on the rail?

Clobbersauras:

Post a pic of your mount on 97!

A pic worth thousands of words.

Guys did you read my range review on post #80? I posted four pics of the rail, but in case you missed them here they are again....

Lector - this is a airsoft mount - not military.... it slides onto the mount from the front and then the two screws "lock" it down. You don't drill holes into anything. The only thing that holds it on is the pressure from the two screws.

Yes it overhangs it in the front. I'm going to look at it gain tonight and post more detailed pics.
