So my old cap and ball.44 b.p.rem.navy model 1858 would have been considered an antique, even though it was made with modern materials in Italy or does the law consider any MODERN repo of say the break open .44 scoffield or .44 russian a RESTRICTED firearm, because its NEWLY Made? I would like to carry and "TARGET SHOOT" and i stress"TARGET SHOOT" only, (to any R.C.M.P. officer who monitors these sites.), a handgun on my mountain trecks. Is the Key word here ACTUAL ANTIQUE made before i believe 1898? i sold all my restricted firearms when i moved to the island.I lived only a few minutes ride from PACIFIC SHOOTERS handgun range in North Van. Except for weekends, i had the range to myself, most of the time.:rockOn: cheers POPS
 
handgun wise...if it wasn't built before 1898 it's not an antique,and even then it's caliber specific.

your post is a bit confusing as the .44's were Remington ARMY the .36's Remington NAVY.
I'm guessing yours is a Navy Arms replica of a 1858 Remington 44 Army and as such IS NOT an antique,and is a restricted firearm.
you can get clarification from the stickies in this section as I may not have a clue what I'm talking about :D
 
Thats Right its Restricted.
You can once in awhile buy a Antique 44 or 45 caliber Revolver in the CGN EE for under $1000

Theres a nice perscribed Antique Italian 1874 handgun in there right now thats a very good deal under $1000.
Considering some Repos cartridge revolvers are like $800 then ya might as well buy a Perscribed Antique with the RCMP letter to prove its Antique to any CO or Police.

You dont need the RCMP letter but if you dont understand the Perscribed Antique System then i would buy one with a letter. just less hassel for you is all.
Mooncoon had a nice Dutch Antique revolver for sale awhile back.
