Well, after over a year of fiddling around with the original Omega, I have finally come to a point that I am extremely happy with it.

Here Is the before photo:

Since that photo I have:

1) Replaced the 209 breech plug with a PR breech plug that takes a cut down Hornet case.
2) Swapped out the Weaver rings for Burris quick detachable rings
3) Swapped out the Bushnell Trophy scope for a Burris 2-7x28mm Short Mag scope
4) Replaced the tupperware stock for a custom made Robertson Composites stock. It has been hand fitted by Ian by grinding down the comb so it sights in well with both the scope and iron sights, the grip has been conotured to follow the lines of the trigger guard, it was fitted with a magnum Kick Eez pade, and then painted with a textured paint. I loved the gun, but I bought it before the laminated stocks were easily available, and Ian does amazing work.

Here is the after photo:

I know it does not look very traditional by any standards, but she is a front stuffer, she makes smoke, and I really enjoy shooting it. I just I would let you all see my toy after it was finished.

Cheers,

Corey

That's awesome... I am curious to find out how the PR breech conversion works for you. Please keep us posted.

The breech conversion has already been tested; that was the first thing I swapped out about a year ago. I would not switch back, but if I had not switched int he first place I would have tried the Winchester primers specifally made for muzzleloaders first.

The group size shrunk down to about0.85" 3 shots @ 100 yards when I keep my loading and cleaning consistent. I am trying a new powder and bullet, so I am back to the drawing board right now.

I find the extra weight of the stock, along with the stock shape and butt pad, keep it from kicking very hard. I used to come away from the range tender after shooting it for too long, but I do not feel a thing anymore. Oh yeah, Ian handed it off to me to try before doing the final paint and trimming of the butt pad to make sure it fit okay. If I had the cash, every one of my rifles would have a Robertson stock.

Very nice job. I love the Omegas and my laminate/stainless has performed flawlessly. I am probably going to order the breech plug conversion this winter just for the fun of it.

I also bought the new Omega X7 this fall, once of the first three in Canada. It is extremely well balanced, and very accurate out to 100 yards, even with the peep sight. It is the best thivk brush ML out there IMO.

Huntsman,

The length of pull is about the thickness of the recoil pad longer. I found the old stock just did not fit me right, but I really liked the rifle itself. The new stock directs the recoil straight into my shoulder insted of a large amount of muzzle jump the old one gave me. I find a night and day difference betweeen the two; the original did its job, but this one does it better, but at a cost of more than what I paid for the rifle int he first place. I now just have to get off my butt and put the other stock up for sale, maybe somebody will want it.

Steyr101,

That is a very nice rifle; I bet it is a beaut to carry around in the brush over the waht I have.
