Well here is one of my first forays into estate stuff. It included these two and a savage 340 bolt 3030, mosin 91/30 and a cooey 60. The top one is marked BSA&Co 1911 Mk111 and I guess the 14 was made in 1916? All are in good shape with shiney bores The savage looks pretty good too and the mosin nos.match....so I'm happy seeing that I only had to sleep with the widow to pay for it.

Oh the Humanity! Volley sights, cutoff, and windage adjustable rear sight! Then BUBBA had to go and "SPORTYIZE" it.
Yeah, I know what you mean! I guess I just got a new winter project. Despite looking funny, I bet the sights will be easy to use as I can get a good sight picture and there is the windage option on the rear. I just loaded up on 303 ammo so I hope to put them to the test. The enfield may be beyond repair but I think the 14 might have a chance. But then again is it even worth trying to restore something like these? What's a decent price for a 14 like the one pictured? Thanks guys. pete

Thanks Joe that's a very nice offer. I'll email you.Merry Christmas to you and yours too! I was wondering how one would use the volley sight set up? It seems so offset that I'd think it would be difficult to get on target. Are the protective ears on the No1 cut off or are they an add on that can be replaced? Is the black paint like finish(suncorite?) normal or has this one been spray painted? Do the bolts usually not have numbers?Any advice is appreciated as you can probably tell, I don't know much on the subject...yet! Pete

The protective ears on the front and rear sights have been removed, you can get 'new' sight bases and restore it to original condition without much effort. Even if they have been ground down they are replaceable. The front sight ears will come on the nosecap, and that can be replaced when you get the proper forearm or repair the current one.

Here's a schematic and parts list:
Numrich

The serial number should be on the rear of the bolt handle. Sometimes they are faded.

As for the blueing/finish, I don't know. As far as I know the WWI SMLE's were all blued, but it may have been arsenal refinished after the war with something else. Some more informed people on here will know.

Thanks Tyler. That was a link I was looking for! With the situation of sported wood, how can one repair the lower wood . To quote Joe"I am amazed that it still has the volley sights and enough fore arms wood to restore." I figured I would have to go full transfusion...... So there might be a pulse
