My pain is your gain...[XCR folder review added]

I just got my XCR courtesy of a fellow gunnutz... Now, I'm a bit annoyed by the upper that does not open enough for cleaning the interior of the rifle... Add to that the fact that the front pin does not easilly come off and you get real cleaning problems... My guess is that a bit of grinding/filing of the upper will solve that problem by allowing the two parts to open wider.

Another thing that I find annoying is that my rifle is equiped with the old style gas regulator... Robinson state that all their rifles produced from 2007 on have the new style... Well, I hope I can buy a replacement kit from Robinson (already ordered one, We'll see...)

The rifle is heavy, probably mostly from the 18.6" heavy barrel... I wish a lighter contour barrel will be available one day... I find a heavy rifle in .223 is unnecessary for most applications... That is one of the reason I did not like my SIG Classic Green!

The big allen screw that retains the barrel is too long and angular: it is unconfortable on the knuckles if the rifle is gripped on the mag well... I believe it sould be rounder and shorter or shrouded in some way. (that's a very minor complaint!)

I have a Vltor telestock on it right now but would really like the folder adapter as well... I like folding stocks for transport and telescoping stock to adjust length of pull and also allow smaller shooters (mostly girls as it turns out!) to use try out my rifles. I hope the folding adapter for AR stocks will be available at some point for us up here...

The ergonimics are real good. It handles like an AR and I have to remind myself that the charging handle is not at the rear! I like the bold hold open/release controle but I still have the reflex to tap the side of the rifle!

I find the fit is good... Not super tight but then it is a semi-auto rifle and some tolerance is good for reliable functioning... I have yet to shoot it so I can't comment on reliability, accuracy, etc...

how are you guys getting adapters for collapsible stocks? I want one dammit!!!

Armed, I understand that you are unimpressed. but what canadian company is going to make an AR-18 based rifle with aluminum lower full top rail and quad rail, with flip up irons and adjustable gas system for much cheaper than an XCR costs?

XCR vs 180B

Based only on handling the two (i.e. not shooting them) I was really unimpressed with the stamped steel receiver on the AR180B. It's got to be solid for me but that's just my personal preference. The XCR build appearance (on the outside) impressed much more than the AR180B.

YMMV.

I just recieved my XCR stock adapter directly from Rob Arm. They sent it U.S. parcel...$55.00 CND. Took about 3 weeks to show up, and I have yet to install it on my rifle.

damn i gotta order one then.

Armed- i saw your other thread, and kudos to kyle precision arms for getting into the industry. but, I doubt they will able to produce a rifle like the XCR for the price of a 180B. If they do, great!, but I don't see it happening.

I just bought an XCR...and an M96, they will look good with my black special. Now if the Tavor would get here already. Good thing I'm 28 and divorced!!!

Throw a railed forend on an AR180B and I would say these rifles are nearly equals. The XCR takes the lead by having an aluminum lower and other nice features like an external bolt catch. Quality wise, they are on par with each other. The AR180B is priced reasonably for what you get. The XCR is not.

I would hope that the XCR is better than the 180B, not just on par.
I was not very impressed with the 180B that I looked at. The scope mount arrangement was very poorly spot welded onto the upper, and broke off almost right away. After I welded it back on (for a fellow CGNer) he could not get the scope base to stay solidly attached to the base.
The barrel trunnion doesn't look very solid in the front of the stamped reciever (yeah, I know AKs do similar, but the fit-up seems much better.
And of course, the plastic or polymer lower hinge seems a bit flaky...

true #1bcshooter, but she paid the rent while I drank booze and bought guns. 5 years of bliss it was. Hell, I got an SKSd for a wedding gift(from an army buddy of course).
