I will chronicle my journey with the PAL/RPAL application so that other newbies can get an idea since there are always threads about how long it should take to process an application. I'm in Alberta.

Jan. 25&26, 2014 - Took PAL and RPAL courses.

Jan. 31/14 - Mailed my application to Miramichi through registered mail.

Feb. 6/14 @ 1417hrs - "Item successfully delivered"

Feb. 6/14 @ 1418hrs - Called CFC to check on my application. Just kidding! Maybe I'll call tomorrow or next week Monday. I know the sticky says that they don't check your
application anymore due to the number of CGN members following the protocol but I'll try and see what comes out of it.

Official Day 1 of application process: Feb. 6, 2014.

Feb. 11/14 (Tuesday) - Called CFC at 1315hrs got through after 1-2 rings. I stated my inquiry by saying that I was trying to check the status of my application online but that it was returning no results based on the information I put in but that I was confident that I put in the right information and asked if maybe there was something I wasn't doing right. The lady asked me if this was my first time to apply for a PAL and when I sent the application. I told her yes, and that I sent it about two weeks ago via registered mail and that I know they received it about a week ago. She told me that it's because they had just received it and that it takes a bit of time before they can put it in the system. No offer to check my application, didn't ask for my name or any info. Told me to call back in two weeks. She sounded a bit annoyed, just my feeling and speculation, I could be wrong but she was not rude or anything and was not rushing me or anything like that. I thanked her and she bid me a nice day and phone call ended. Overall, fairly pleasant phone call, got through quick. I will call back in a week, maybe, if it's not online yet by then.

Just wondering why you wouldn't simply post your experiences in the large stickied thread at the top of the forum where EVERYBODY else does?

When I started this thread, I was not aware that people were doing the same in the sticky. I had only read the first page or so of the sticky. After reading the later pages of that very long thread, I did realize that some people were doing the same but most accounts were pretty concise and it's harder to follow as there were a lot of people doing the same. I felt that this may be of benefit to others. If you do not think so, then do not come here and post your unhelpful comments that provide no value. Nobody forced you to read this thread.

No need to get sensitive. I'm just saying your experiences would be better served where they can be discussed directly compared to others without having to click/search/navigate through a different thread. No worries though. I'm sure everyone is waiting with bated breath to see how your individual example turns out.

Well That's Not Exactly What You Said Now Is It? Don't Try And Turn It Around Like You Weren't Being Rude For No Good Reason. Thanks For Another Sarcastic Remark. You Seem To Be Under The Impression That I'm DOing This For Attention. Like I Said, It May Give Others Some Perspective. You Don't Like It? Don't Click It. Bye.

I like that you started your own thread, I am in the same boat having just sent my application off about 3 weeks ago. Nothing on the website as of yet, if nothing by next week I will try a call. The other thread is great too but super long and hard to follow sometimes.

Thanks. Exactly, it's kinda convoluted in there. I'm using this as a journal too in case I run into issues.

I am.

Beat it troll.

March 5/14 - "Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. "

Day 28

I know I said that I would call in a week or so after the first time I called CFP but I've read lots of accounts where it seems not to do anything to put your application online any sooner and I got lazy so I didn't call. On the flip side, it shows how long it takes for your application to go online without having to call them all the time. (although it's a sample size of one)

The last time I checked to see if my application was online yet was March 3 so it could have gone online yesterday.

Mark me down as another interested in this particular thread. Please continue updates and thank you. Also mark me down as another tired of forum trolls. "I'm sure everyone is waiting with bated breath to see how your individual example turns out." Are you for real? Get lost and get over yourself.

LOL Thanks for the support. Thanks for the others who chimed in too. Some people just don't have a life. He's a newbie and seems that he's just one of those that join forums to troll others.

Noticed on March 7 that my CC was charged $80 on March 5. I will probably call Monday/Tuesday if I don't get a call by then. I believe the next steps would be an interview for me and then my references. Will keep you guys posted. It shouldn't be too long now! Keeping my fingers crossed. Checking out a safe on Costco today. With what's happening with the reclassification of Swiss Arms rifles I think I'm gonna go grab an AR-15 as soon as I get my RPAL.

March 10/14 - Called CFC at 1305hrs Mountain Time, on hold for about 10 minutes. Lady picks up, I ask if I could inquire about the status of my application. She asks me my personal info to verify my identity, confirms that they received my application on Feb. 6. She tells me I need an interview as I'm applying for an RPAL and they are ready to do it now. She patches me through to the interviewer, I'm on hold for about 5 minutes and I go through the paces. Questions are about if I've ever been charged with a crime, violence, trafficking drugs etc etc If I am depressed, experienced a divorce, bankruptcy etc etc etc. Basically, what they're looking for is if you're a criminal, depressed, psychotic.. all answers were no as I'm a sane law abiding citizen. lol Interview is done, she advises me I can have my references call in, gave me an extension # (2533) and to reference my application number, which shows when you look up the status of your application through the rcmp link: https://secure.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/eCFISIWS/editLicenceQueryAuthentication.do. Oh btw, she asked me why I wanted to acquire restricted firearms. Answer: Target Shooting. It was very painless, she was just going through the questions and all my answers were just "Target Shooting" and all "no" and it was done in less than 5 minutes.

Day 33 (including weekends)

My references are my dad and brother. My dad called yesterday (Mar 10) and my brother called today. Questions were standard, they were going through a checklist. Similar questions to what they asked me. No interrogation or trying to trick or trip them up or anything like that.

March 11, 2014: "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! TIME TO BUY SOME GUNS AND FILL UP MY 14 GUN SAFE I BOUGHT FROM COSTCO THE OTHER DAY!

Total number of days: 34 including weekends.
