My PAL/RPAL Application Journal

So I just called the CFP today (March 14/14) to ask for my RPAL number and I was told that my license isn't valid until I have my license in my hands. The lady told me that I cannot buy anything online until I receive my license. This is contrary to what the sticky says. Anybody else experience this lately? I clearly stated to her that I have read/heard of people being able to call the provincial CFO to ask for their RPAL number and it was given to them. She just repeated to me that my license isn't valid until I receive it and just to wait for it in the mail. AAARGGGHHH! I NEED to buy that Norinco CQA from Marstar before that sale ends!

I'm pretty sure you can purchase it from them and they will hold it for you until you get your PAL. John from Marstar says as much early on in the thread about that deal. (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1043341-M-4-carbines/page2, post #12)

I am in B.C. My first RPAL license application was delivered on Feb 13. Same as you, when I called I was told it could take up to 4 weeks to show up online. On the 28th day my card was charged, and it showed up online as processing. That was Friday so I figured I would call today (Monday) to do my interview. I checked online first and it says that my license has been approved and is in the mail! I didn't even do an interview. I checked with both my references and neither of them did one either! They must be really back logged in BC at the moment. I had heard of BC residents only having one reference interviewed, but not none!

Anyways, I was able to get my license number off of the RCMP website and use it to pre-order a firearm. They won't complete the sale until I have the physical license in hand.

Even though I already have my RPAL, I will post some updates here regarding other things related to the acquisiton of my firearms to give the other noobs a reference.

I got my plastic RPAL about a week or a little less after it said online that my license was issued. They didn't give me my RPAL # over the phone and told me that my license was not valid until I had it in my hands.

Today, I called them for LTATT. They asked me to email them proof of gun club membership before they will issue an LTATT. They said they will mail it once it's approved and that it could take 5 business days to process before they mail it. Didn't ask me any questions as to the conditions etc. All I said was I wanted LTATT, they said email us proof of club membership and that's it.

While I was on the phone with them, I asked about the status of the transfer for restricted firearms I just ordered (from Marstar). They said that it won't be approved until they got proof of my gun club membership. Good thing I called them about LTATT because I was checking my order from Marstar and it has been "Waiting for Approval" for 5 days. When I contacted Marstar, they said that they were just waiting for the transfer to be approved. I don't think CFC had any intentions of calling me or Marstar for this information. So my advice is, if you're in AB and you want restricted firearms, just get a club membership right away because it will affect your LTATT and ability to purchase restricted guns and call the CFC!
