As a long time 9mm shooter, I’ve always had doubts as to whether or not I need a .45 pistol. Upon looking at the wide selections of what I can choose for a .45, I was recommended by other fellow shooters that I should look at getting a 1911 given its history in WWII as well as decades of improvement made upon the already solid platform. I was having a difficult time choosing a 1911 that suits my need. I want a 1911 that has updated features that suits today’s needs without sacrificing performance – this means no firing pin safety, undercut trigger guard, improved grip and excellent slide to frame tightness. About a year back I saw a STI Trojan .45 at Target Sports and that pretty much suited what I was looking for – slide & frame are nice and tight, smooth 4lb factory trigger, agressive slide cuts, front stippling on the grip upon other features mentioned above provides me with great confidence that this is a durable shooter. The only optional part was the slim mag well installed by store staff Dave P.
The thin wood grip that came from STI was nice, but I thought I could improve my grip by changing to a gunnar style G10 grip but with less aggressive cut. So I ordered the 10-8 Premium Performance 1911 grips made from G10 glass/epoxy composite.
As a big fan of the 3-dot sights, I was not keen to shoot the STI with no front dot on the front with a bomar-style rear sight. I had Casey at Tactical Ordnance to put white dots on the front & rear sights. To improve on sight acquisition, he also made cuts to both sides of the rear sight to create an inverted V to help my eyes to naturally flow onto the dots.

And here’s my big surprise - Casey meticulously created the beautiful blended mag well to the frame by hand and it easily matches the top notch quality of a premium priced Nighthawk Custom pistol.

He then took the complete gun apart, re-parkerized the pistol and put KG Gun Kote in flat black on top to create this durable finish that feels it will last a lifetime.

So, thanks to the guys at Target Sports and Casey from Tactical Ordnance, I have found my perfect 1911.
Now excuse me while I go punch some large holes.
