My poor mans LR1000

My only fear with them is having to stuff the bullet deep into the case to make mag feed. With the mag limiting me to 3.4'' I don't think I'll be able to get the VLD bullet close to the rifling and mag feed the gun. I've never shot a VLD that didn't want to be jammed onto the lands or seated right next to them. The LRAB quite were jump tolerant in the last barrel.

I have one rifle that shoots with them 60 thou off but yes I find most don't. What I do when I have something chambered is make up a dummy round with a vld that fits the mag and has enough of the bearing surface in the neck and then ask to have it throated so that dummy round is 10 thou off. I give up a little speed as you'll likely hit pressures earlier with out factory freebore but it's more than made up for with accuracy.

I haven't measured any lrab's but other nosler bullets that I weighed and measured the bearing surface on weren't consistent enough to get the long range accuracy I was looking when building something like you did.

I had thought about having the gun throated for a specific bullet but the way component supply is I'd hate to be married to one specific bullet. When Terry did my last 260 he steered me away doing that and it worked out well. I'll have to see if the local gun store has one of those test packets of 180's so I don't have to commit to buying 100 right off the hop.

I'll have to check the few LRAB's I have on hand and see how consistent they are. I know they shot well to 800m but I can't say I took the time to weight sort and measure bearing surface.

That is an outstanding rifle build and I'm sure that I'm not the only person working with a limited budget that really appreciates the job you have had done.
Mega-dollar rifles are fine for those who can afford but your build is superb... again Thanks.

Consistency is Consistency no matter what it costs, as long as it fits you and it's reliable..Some of these custom rifle makers are out to lunch with these gun prices..

They seem to shoot just as well as the VLD and for the little you give up in BC I find it's well worth it to have a round that works well in pretty much any factory action.

Well I decided to give the 175 LRAB's a whirl. I'd like to go as heavy as possible and the 168 LRAB's were fairly jump tolerant in the factory barrel. If they don't pan out the 168 classic hunters it will be. It's encouraging to hear they shoot as well as the VLD's
