my poor scope getting dinged

Curtton you need to change the angle of the deflector to about 45 degrees. Whats causeing your issues is that the deflector is flat on top. Also bring it down so it has some standoff distance between the deflector and the scope. The shells come out with significant force and I can gaurentee that the deflector is hitting the scope at least from the angle of your pics defeating the purpose.

i wasnt watching it close enuff to notice if the scope was being hit by the deflector , even if it was the deflector would absorb some of the energy .

there is a 1/2" gap between the deflector and the scope .

took your advice to bend the deflector to give it more of an angle to solve the one ejection problem . thanks .

looks pretty good should work now .

Curtton,
Just a quick question: What scope and mount are you using? Looks like a POSP or some such, but wondering about what power and how it works for you on this rifle. Also, is your mount the AK or the SVD type?

Nice deflector, BTW.

my poor scope got a few dings from the ejecting casings.

this part im not sure if i heard correctly that i could get a smith to file the ejector at a certain angle to make the casing spit sideways , is this possible ?

if not then i will try another route to save my scope .

i havent seen any deflector made for VZ/CZ858 so im wondering if i could sub a SKS shell deflector from marstar . will it fit ?

Perhaps trying another brand of rifle would do it.

its a 6x scope , SVD type , its very nice scope and its only $160 from eastwave.ca .

i mounted this scope early last year for a DIY dragunov clone project , i kept the scope small to keep it porportioned . the only disadvantage to this set up, is the off-set to the left by 5/8".

This will still cause issues. Get rid of the bend in the middle of the deflector , make it completely flat with more than 45 degrees above the horizontal plane of the receiver.
The less you change the ejection path of the shells the more chances they will be deflected properly.

Thanks very much. Like you, I want to keep the overall look in proportion. At the same time, my eyes are getting older and so a scope is coming, one way or the other.
