So I finally got off my butt and threw together my first shooting table today.. pretty happy with how it came out. Its about 36" tall at the table surface and 4 feet long, the legs are 1" pipe threading into pipe couplers cut on a 15 deg. and welded to plates. The table is two 3/4" hardboard sandwiched together. This is my first try so if you see anything I should have done let me know.

should be better than the old foldup banquet table I was using thats for sure!

I didn't think we could post pictures of our Johnson's, the standards around here are really dropping

(sorry, if I didn't say it someone else would.)

Both the bench and the rifle look fantastic - thats the same style bench I've been meaning to build all winter (ambition is in short supply around here)
The only thing I would suggest you add, is caps or plates on the leg bases to keep them from sinking into the ground.

The table looks great, well made, and durable.

I would suggest 2 things

(1) level bubbles in the corners, so that when you are on soft ground you can use a rubber mallet to tap the legs into the ground and level the table.

(2) A small (1/4) trim around the outside, my pet peve is having stuff roll off the table and onto the dirty ground, or worse still into a snow bank, and then have to go looking for it.

Great Job!

Your cutout only needs to be about 1/2 of what it is and if equally cut from both sides it would make the table suitable for shooting from either side...

I am planning on putting caps on the legs because I do a fair bit of shooting in sand pits.. and I had thought of making the table ambidextrous, but I don't currently shoot with any lefties.

I am welding pipe caps to the bottom of the legs, they don't need to be too big, I don't think I will be shooting on any floating bog...

here is the measurements on a diagram I had professionally done up in solidworks

and the table is 36" tall from the floor

Nice sturdy bench.
My only suggestion is adding 2 or 3 2" semi-circle cutouts in the edge of the table top on the "non shooting" side. Spaced appropriately the cutouts make for a convenient rifle rest. Its handy when you have more than one rifle you.
