My Pup is Finally Home

An update, at one week short of 6 months, he is 54lbs. He has had two training sessions with live birds, and he is doing great at finding and pointing live pigeons, without trying to grab them. He has tracked a dragged bird for over 100 yards with no issues, and retrieved it, and he is swimming across a dugout to fetch training dummies, and he is bringing them back to me. This weekend the plan is to actually have him point some pigeons, and then we will flush and shoot them. At the rate that he is going, with almost two months left to train, he will be ready for the pheasant opener come mid September.

Butch is seven months old this week and 62lbs. This morning he locked up solid during our morning walk, so I pulled out my phone and took a picture. I then took two more steps towards him, and a Hungarian partridge flushed 12-15 feet in front of him.

An exciting time, hunting season will be a ball. Harley is ready to go although our bird #'s are down after a few excellent years. WE will have work harder this year. Good luck.
