My Range Pistol Transport Solution

Depends on the size of the case

The whole foam, not cut in half like my design, for this case with high density foam is aprox $200. The regular foam is cheaper.

I actually just won an auction on ebay for a pelican 1650 so it now looks like this:

Sorry to highjack I just found the foam thing and am excited lol

Nicely done, I have a smaller Pelican case wight he foam done the same way, it holds three handguns plus mags.

Speaking of cases and foam, we are about to start offering custom cases and case foam from MyCaseBulder.com I have had time to put this on our web site yet but I will this week. They have really cool online software that lets you design you foam and if they don't have your firearm in their shape library you can upload a photo or your firearm with overall length and hight and it will scale it out for you.

I've been following this thread for a couple of days now... I've got 3x Pelican 1510 cases that have no foam... I'd like it to be a DIY project and would like to attempt to build a foam insert on my own...

Does anyone know where to purchase a bulk block of foam? I'd like it to be a medium density...

EDIT: Preferably locally in BC lower mainland area!

I priced out foam locally from " The Foam Shop " and it was double the cost of getting my pelican foam.

That's outrageous!!!!!

I'm going to go to home depot and check out their wall insulating panels... see what kind of material that's made of...

I mean... I look at those floatation noodles from superstore (for the pool)... they are like... $1?! Why can't I get a block of that stuff for $10 lol...

You need to be careful about what time of foam you use as it could be very abrasive and damage the finish of your firearm.

Yeah I agree! I want to replicate that foam case from cruzer?? It has a V cut in the middle and each slot is plastic. So I really need the foam to just hold it all together - hold the shape.

For those of you that want a less expensive option, I have ONE of the CED XL trolley cases on wheels left in stock: http://fasttoys.net/ca/CED-Waterproof-XL-Storage-Case-With-Trolley/

These are the best price per dollar cases on the market!

$ 130.00

CED water tight, dust-proof, dent-resistant, shatter-resistant, virtually unbreakable cases are durable, strong and able to withstand some fairly extreme conditions. They are essential for keeping equipment secure and are a prerequisite for transporting or freighting delicate air cargo or protecting your valuable handguns. Each case is packed with multi-layers of eggshell and cubed foam to provide the best of both. For fast usage, simply place your pistol in the case and the eggshell foam will compress it in place. For longer journeys, where protection is vital to delicate scopes, camera equipment or other valuables, simply reverse the bottom foam layers to place the eggshell on the bottom of the case with the cubed layers on top. Then pull out the cubes as needed to the shape of the item to be stored and insert it for the ultimate protection during transport.

The tough, strong, durable PP material used in these cases, make them virtually indestructible. Each contains a folding handle for easy storing, eggshell & cubed foam packing, locking feature for absolute security, purge valve to release atmospheric pressure, are stackable for easy storage, and have stainless steel hinge pins to prevent rust. Compare sizes / prices and you will find that these CED waterproof cases offer the BEST value for both in the market today.

Weight: 11.5 lbs. / Dim. 22" x 13" x 9.0" (55 x 33 x 23 cm)

I did the same thing:

And for size comparison:

It's a Plano All-Weather XL case, a bit smaller than a Pelican 1600. Very happy with it so far, just need to fill it up a bit more! Could squeeze a few more pistols in there sans-revolver or mags, but I like it as-is for my current range outings.

Very nice TT,

Did the case come with the foam? Or did you buy the foam on the side?

I'm still looking for cheap foam :(

Came with the pick n pluck foam. Some of the foam out there costs as much or more as the case, seems crazy. I didn't want to screw up that's for sure.

$15 at Canadian Tire. Aluminum outside and the latches lock. Pick n pluck foam came with it.
