Ordered a Holosun 503G and it arrived today. Sadly the 2 MOA dot looks blurry to me. I used the camera to take a picture of it but in the photo the dot is a perfect round dot. Did a quick google search and it seems like I may have astigmatism. Am I pretty much screwed? Is there any other similar type of optic that I should try?

I have astigmatism but I didn't know that this was the cause of the blurry reticle on my illuminated scopes. Now that I know I understand what the problem is (me) and it doesn't bother me as much and I rarely notice it. It is like tinnitus (that I also have) and have got used to the constant ringing in my ears. It is a wonder that I can hit anything when I shoot but have managed to overcome both issues and when I do miss I have great back up excuses. Phil.

All reddots are going to look the same, Either go with a scope or corrective eye wear. Or like me deal with the comma.

I have astigmatism which causes my EoTech to look blurry too. There are two things that help it. I can either wear my prescription glasses, which sharpens it right up or I can look at the reticle through my flip up backup peep sight. It's not as sharp as when I have my glasses on but it is considerably better than without.

If you don't like either of these options you may want to look at replacing your red dot for a prismatic scope like the Vortex Spitfire 1 X.

I can't stand wearing my glasses and prefer contacts so I guess I'm going to have to squint for the time being. I was also thinking about getting a Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24 PLC with the throw down lever. Just to be clear, a scope with an illuminated reticle isn't going to have the same issue right? An Elcan Specter is WAY out of my price range...

You can test to see if its your eyes or the sight. Take a pic of through the sight with your phone if the dot is round its your eyes if it is messed up it is your sight

I've got really bad astigmatism in one eye and a lesser case in the other, so the blurry red dot thing is not new to me.

That said, I've found the higher quality the Red Dot Scope the better and sharper the dot is.

Not a knock on the Holosun, never used one.

I've had great results with Aimpoint and Trijicon units.

On the low-end, my Redfield Counterstrike also gives me good results.

Most of the CCC sights and airsoft units just show a red blob to my eyes.

All this is with glasses on. Just my experiences.

On an AR-15, if you cowitness with a red dot the rear aperture fixes the blurry red dot for me.

A question for astigmatism folk, If you get eyeglasses to fix the astigmatism, does it fix the red dot sight blurring?

When I got my Holosun I noticed the same thing... until I held it up and focused on an object and not the reticle. When you use it as intended (focusing on the target) it sharpens up.

I have bad eyes and find it helps a lot to run the brightness as low as possible makes the starburst effect less noticeable

A big x2 on this.

My glasses don't do anything for it, some people have luck tho.
