My rifle loves cheap ammo

I went to the range today, brought some expensive target ammo from winchester (t22) and federal champion something or other (also fairly expensive), and a box of remington thunderbolt (inexpensive).

I was putting 5 shots though the same hole at 25 yards, on iron sights, with the thunderbolt. It was ATLEAST 50% better then the t22 or federal.

I mean i know .22lr rimfire is cheap already but it got a hell of alot cheaper.

Only problem is, found this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbsuJhr_zE

and now have second thoughts about using the thunderbolts. Has this problem been addressed?

Anything Remington in .22 ammo is dirty dirty ammo. Thunderbolts, cyclones.. any of it..

My guns will never see that crap fired in it..

I found Winchester Xperts run really well through my Savage Mark II "G"! I love being able to run "cheap" ammo and get pretty good accuracy out of it! :D

Mine doesn't like the t22's very much, quite a few casing's i had to pick out, and one misfire so far.

It absolutely loves the federal champions though, not one single problem, after 250+ rounds.

Yeah I haven't tried T22's yet, maybe I should at some point.

That is odd Noi, I was shooting those the other day and did notice that they were a "dirtier round" but only had one round "stove pipe" on me. I then started shooting the federals and damn my Ruger 10/22 loves them.

Re-reading, I was wondering if there actually were places where Thunderbolt was still inexpensive..;)

Lebaron in montreal often has them in special at the cash register.

when they are, i always buy 4-5 bricks as one of my 10/22 like
them while my other 10/22's don't.

i even have one of my rimfires ( a henry lever ) that likes
cheap winchester 333.

the only rifle i own that support this cheap crap.

i tried them in my ruger 10/22's, remington 597's, savage mark 2's,
hell, all of my .22's and the little henry likes them more than anything
exept maybe cci stingers.

one of my savages even likes the cheap canadian tire federal
bulk pack while it chokes on cci.

not one rifle is the same, you really have to test all available ammo
to see wich the gun likes best, when you're lucky , it likes the cheap stuff.

I have a CZ 452 that will out shoot more expensive ammo all day long with thunderbolts. It seems to love em. You scared me with the video though so I don't think I'll buy any more. I haven't seen any damage yet but I clean the thing a lot. I have seen some fouling though.

thanks

Our Brno #2 shoots "cheap like borscht" Federal American Eagle ($1.40 per 40) into easy .5 inch groups with a 4x32 Leupold, (vs 1.5" Rem Cyclone and 3" Stinger groups!) and the ordinary stock (but bedded) 10/22 with the same ammo does .5 inch groups with the odd flyer .5 inch off to the side. Don't know what to do with all my expensive ammo now...

i used to shoot Federal American Eagle. then the local shop went and jack the price to 30 bucks a brick. i now go to wal mart and buy Winchest Dynapoints for 16.99 a brick. same ####, different brand. shoots well out of my gun. Winchester Xperts don't.

If your using thunderbolts and aren't experiencing any problems then go ahead and keep using them, just make sure to check your gun between batches of ammo.

The guy who made that video is a mod on another forum I frequent. When he tried to clean out the barrel his brass bore brush got lodge in the lead/wax build up, he couldn't get it out of there for the life of him, not even his smith could. Boiling water, all sorts of solvents, even acid (can't remember which type but some guys use it to clean out their SS suppressors). Ended up having to scrap the barrel, he replaced it with a paclite receiver and suppressed it, you can see it in some of his other videos.

Read this again. Does it even seem reasonable that this could happen?

Then why repeat such nonsense?

I know it sounds very far fetched but that's what actually happened. Maybe if I go dig through enough old threads I'll find the pictures.
